FYI to all convertible owners taking off ground effects
FYI to all convertible owners taking off ground effects
Ok, when our cars where made they were T-Top cars and the tops where just cut off and made into convertibles, but they added more reinforcing to make up for no roof, but when they did this they coverd up the rear nut for rocker panel ground effects and you need to get at it. There is two ways, one, cut through the two thick peices of metal OR, my non distructive way, but you need thin arms and my getto riged toollll
thigns needed,
1/4" ratchet
11m deep, or semi-deep socket
2" 1/4 extention
about 1 to 2 foot lenth of copper pipe
some tape, duct, masking, electrical, whatever
put the ratchet in the pipe and place the socket and extension on it pop the rear of the top and fold it up out of the way, take out your vent in the door jamb and shine light in through there, now place your tool down inside the front of the 1/4 panel , the bolt is about 1 to 2 inches from the front of the 1/4 panel you will see it once you look down there, put the tool down there and you will most likly have to put 2 or 3 bents in the pipe, i did and yeah it was VERY SLOW going but i did not need to cut up the car to get to it, now putting that back on....that is a different story, i think i will try something with a air ratchet and the nut like jamed in the stocket somehow....worst case, i will have to just use double-sided tape, but i think a 1/4 air ratchet, some tape around the nut jamed into the socket should work just fine. just an FYI for everyone who has convertibles and wants to remove the ground effects.
