another 4th gen console question...

I noticed that everyone who did the swap used the newer consoles with the flat edge on the front of the console door. I'm just wondering why nobody used the older ones (with the round door around the cupholder). Did you not like the way they looked, was the newer one more readily available, was the fold out cup holder that much more cooler looking, etc?

I would think the 4 cupholders vs. 1 on the older style and the 2 12v. outlets vs. 1 on the older style is reason enough. I know I like the console a lot better in my '99 Trans Am than I did on the LT1 Trans Am. The older one opens to the back (hard to get in while driving) and the latch breaks easily in my experience.

Yeah I have a console sitting in my garage from a 95 bird, and I noticed the door kinda catches. It's almost like it doesn't want to open. I'm not really concerned about the cupholders, since I have the huge ones in the doors, and don't let people eat or drink in my car, but I can see the appeal of having 3 extra holders!
