Whar are the shock thingy's called that hold up the rear hatch back and the front hood? I am trying to do a search for them so I cam buy some new ones. TIA.

They're called Gas Struts

All I come up with is the front suspension struts. Oh well, I'll just use a stick till I find some. Just takes up cargo room. hahaha

Well they are not front suspenison struts. There real name has already been said by si_camaro. They are called gas struts.

Keep in mind when you order them that there are different ones depending on whether or not you have a spoiler.

They are commonly referred to as lift supports (at least in the parts world)

You could always do what I've done. It's only temporary because I'd rather spend my hard earned cash on the engine. I drilled a hole in one of them, in the shiny metal part right where it comes to the end of it's travel. I let all the fluid out through the hole, and now when I open the trunk I slip a piece of coat hook, bent into a large split-pin shape, into the hole. It holds the trunk open, takes up no room and is a lot cheaper than new struts!

Follwing SI_Camaros idea,

The struts ALL go bad. I take a small pair of vice grips and when I open the hatch, I clip the vice grip on the chrome rod just below the outer casing. this holds the hatch up well. HAZZARD though, make sure your grips are tigh or the weight of the hatch will just slide the grips down the chrome rod.

Errr... $60 bucks isn't bad for two new struts... sheesh. Consider it an investment in not looking like a broke hick.

I got new ones. Got tired of using a stick. The front cost like $15 each and the rear like $28 each at Pepboys. I just put a new Dynamax exhaust on myself from Cat back for $160 from Summit. Better than $500-800 of estamates I got! I'm all ready for inspection tomorrow! Yehaaaaw!

Pain in the tukish jam'n that pipe up there. Had to remove the rear track bar and support, then it slipped right in. Had to cut a few rusted bolts here and there, but it's done. Think it took me like 6 hours to do, LOL.

As many times as I have done the swap of those struts I am a master at it. I can do them both in ten minutes.

BTW a hockey stick without the blade is the exact length you need to prop up the hatch and do the replacement. Just place the hockey stick on the flat area next to the spare tire well. Not in the trunk pan.
