stand alone cowl peice
ok i dont really know what to call it, its not a cowl hood its just one of those cowls you have to put on your own hood, liek the harwood ones, yknow.
anyways has anyone tried this? on their own... how labor intensive is it? and most importantly how easy is it to screw up???
post some pictures if anyone has them

I don't know how to link to other threads so I will post my pics. I have the 4" Harwood add on cowl. I started grafting it in, but gave up. I am not a body man what so ever. I hate body work. I had the painter where my father works do it for me. It cost me $75 for him to put it on and paint, $45 for the paint, and $100 for the cowl from Jegs. I did do the initial attachment. I used rivets every 2".

Yes. That hole under the hood that is outlined in black is what I cut out. I don't drive it in the rain. When I washed it the other day, water did get in there, but thats just part of having the hood I guess. I really like it. I would have like to get one that went further toward the nose, but they were all flat on the bottom. Not curved to match the hood. I think I would have run into problems getting it to mount flat on the hood.

If you can do the work yourself or if you know somebody that can do it cheap, you can save money by going that route. If you have to pay full price at a body shop, it'll cost you as much as just buying a full cowl hood, and in the long run you still wind up with the heavy steel hood.

That is a good point. Having a shop mold that cowl into the hood would cost a small fortune compaired to what I had to pay. If that were the case, I too think it would be cheaper, or the same as buying a fiberglass hood, and having that painted.
