Anti rust

So i noticed I am starting to get a few rust spots on the body of my car. I was wondering if anyone had some really go tricks on how to prevent rust, other than under coating. I know that I have to sand the spots prime and repaint them, but what I wanna know is there any secret formulas that you guys may know to keep the rust to the absolute knill. Any hints would be greatly appreciated.

I used the Super Starter Kit (in semi-gloss) when I swapped in an '84 trans am's 3.73/posi/disc axle; it was enough to give the axle two coats of por-15. Use the brush instead of spraying it; the por-15 spreads easily, and the brush allows you to get the stuff into every little nook & cranny. I used all 3 stages of the por-15 system (cleaner, zinc wash, and por-15).
