Is this worth $1000???

Total repaint of body, doorjambs under hood and hatch and bodywork..it doesnt need any that includes 3 coats of base and 3 coats of clear. I am thinking of getting black silver flake metallic how much more do you think the metal flake could cost??

Sounds good but at the same time you get what you pay for usually. Is the body work being done w/ bondo or welded in metal? What are you using the car for a daily driver or show/weekend driver?

Ive seen $500 paint jobs look wonderful, and $2500 jobs look stock. It comes down to prep, and the painter. In my area (NC) a basic repaint to factory type appearance runs anywhere from $700-$1200 without jambs, underhood, etc. A complete color change starts in $2500 range and goes up. I know a guy here who charges $400 plus materials (its side job thing), and his work is extremely good. I also have a friend who owns a body shop, and depending on his mood the work varies. If he wants to do a great job he does. If hes not really feeling like it you get a good but not great job. Basically for $1000 you could be really happy, or really unhappy. Id ask around, and see how many ppl recommend the place youre talking to before making a decision. Previous customers are your best way to be informed.

Have them show you a freshly finished product. How does someone else's car look that they just did?

I did my first paint job myself. Made a few mistakes, but was able to recover from them. Took a $600 2nd gen, and sold it 8 years later for $2500. With a basic paint job that I did myself. Just read a little about it in Car Craft, Hot Rod, and Chevy High Perf. Also talked to the automotive paint guys at the desk and told them I was going to paint it myself. They helped me out with the paints and materials. All together, about $225 of my cash and 80 to 100 hours of prep, painting, and final waxing.
