help from someone who knows fiberglass

I'm tired of the beat up aerowing and want a fiberglass one. Unfortunately I'm too cheap to spend 500$ on one so I want to make my own. It seems like the aerowing must be the hardes thing in the world to replicate with fiberglass. I have a couple q's.

First off, it seems like this would need to be a 2 piece mold. What would be the easiest way to make the mold and be able to get it seperated from the wing when it's set?

Once the mold is done, what is the best way to fit the two pieces together?

Just gathering info now to see if it can be done. It will most likely cost more money to make the mold itself than it would be to buy one, but I want to try it anyway

Wow, I give you props for wanting to take on a project like this, but I can assure you that if you have never made any molds before, this is probably gonna take you more time then $500 is worth to you.

You still have your old aero wing in good shape? Maybe you could make the mold with that thing if you wanted to try. Problem is that making a wing like that would probably require you to have a "chop gun". Those things basically shred woven strands of fiberglass and mix the resin at the same time. The cost of one of them is far going to exceed what I am betting you want to spend. I am sure there are other ways to make a spoiler from a mold, but I know thats how my new 5" spolier from Hawks is made! (very nicely i might add)

A quick and cheap mould would be to carve/sand the desired wing shape from styrofoam and hand lay the fiber glass on that, BUT do not use polyester resin, it will eat the styrofoam. Instead use epoxy resin and at least 15 minute cure type (I'd use 60 minute to give time to work with the glass.)
After it is done, if you want /need to remove the styrofoam, just drill a hole in the wing and spray some brake parts cleaner in it, this will disolve the foam (just don't keep the cleaner in the wing or it'll start to attack the epoxy in time).
