What's behind the bumper cover?

When I pound on, (kick, etc.) my rear bumper cover, I hear rattling and some rust falls out... what is behind there? Is it replaceable?

Anyone have a pic, or been thru this?

I'm kinda affraid to... my licence plate holder also is rotting off, one side has already broken off the car. And if I open my hatch, above the right taillight is very soft.

How do I go about removing it?

You have an energyabsorber and a metal reinforcement behind the cover.

If your car is that rusty, I wouldn't start taking it apart. Everything you touch will probably break and you'll never get it back together unless you replace all the rusted metal parts. Rust might be what's holding it together at this point.

on the other hand if your car is rusting you may want to take the panels off so that you can nutralize it and stop it from getting worse

lol because I heard it rattling with my subs, so I was hitting it to find out where the rattle was.

I mean, doesn't everybody? Or at least I'm sure everyone wants to now and then
