Bumper cover question
Bumper cover question
I am collecting a set of panles that I will paint and if all turns out good then I will sand down the rear of the car and install all the newly painted panels.
my question is this, I have just started wetsanding my rear bumper cover and I have noticed some of those typical cracks that almost look like spyder web cracks. I can not feel them and my finger nail does not catch on the cracks but is this something that is a lost cause??? I plan on sanding the entire panel clean but it is alot of work, maybe just spray with primer filler to be safe?? I know some of you are going to say that I don't have to wetsand it but this is the way I am going to do it, safest way for me w/out damaging the material.

If you have the cracks in the paint, most of the time it goes straight down thru the primer. The only way to correctly fix it is to take it all the way down to the urethane, and then repair any damage that may be on the cover. When you repaint, I believe you need a special flex primer, and then you need to add a flexing agent to the paint.

You are most deff going to have to take it down to the urethane and then take a die grinder and go into the bumper little bit untill you can see the spot disapear then just fill it back with some fiberglass and smooth it and u should be fine, tha's what I did to my bumpers and they look great.....
You'd want to use a urethane repair kit though instead of fiberglass. If the bumper cover flexes with the glass on it, the fiberglass will crack and chip off. The kit I got is made by a bondo subsidary, and it was only $20.
