ATTN: 4th gen console swappers

I have a Hurst Dual Gate 2 shifter in my '90 Camaro RS and want to put in a 4th gen dash and console setup. Here is my dilema: The shifter has side to side movement and I would like to keep the car looking pretty stock (obviously for a 4th gen on the interior) looking. So, would it be possible to have the shift indicator work correctly with the Dual Gate 2 shifter? I have no idea how the indicator works, so i have no clue. My backup plan would be to use a Manual console and use a leather shift boot for the shifter. It would look like a manual, but just be the stick to my Dual Gate shifter. Somone help me out, I need to plan this out before I start buyign stuff.

gonna have to go manual or hack up the auto one. i hacked up an auto one....still ended up putting a boot around it....so start with the manual one for the least amount of work.

I have no problem modifying or hacking up an auto console in order to get it to work. The main question is whether or not I can get the shift indicator to work. I don't know how the indicator is connected to the shifter on a 4th gen (or 3rd gen for that matter) so what I need to know is if I can make it work with the Dual Gate 2 shifter.

If it does work, then I just have to hack up the console to accomodate the movement of the shifter, and put in a shift boot to finish it up.

Awwwww hell no! No way I am letting this thread dissapear without an answer. With all the people here who have done, and attempted to do 4th gen consoles, no one can tell me if the automatic shifter indicator light can be made to work with the Dual Gate 2 shifter.

Can someone tell me how the shift indicator on the 4th gen works?

the reason you won't get an answer is becuase most of us have used the manual console - which completely deletes the shift indicator. Go find a cracked busted one at a yard and attempt the swap - then decide if it fits or not and buy a new one.

Ok, thanks for clearing that up.

At this point, I am ready to just use the manual console. I don't like to have it looking like a manual when it isn't, but it is just easier and looks better that way. At least I know what gear it is in. Might also kinda/sorta work as a crappy form of theft prevention... it is hard to get it out of park if you don't know it is a dual gate and can't see the plate.
