T Tops and lexan

Right now i have a set of glass t tops that are really nice and I like them a lot. I jsut do not like the fact they are heavey. I am building my car to be a race car and I am thinking about lexan t tops. Should I try to trade for lexan t tops? WHich t tops are worth more? I am also thinking about getting a lexan rear window. Do any of you have any experiance with these? How much lighter is the lexan hatch widow? Do you think I will get pulled over for having non dot glass?? Where is the best place to get lexan for 3rd gens?

I remember reading somwere that lexan rear glass can seriously mess with your tracktion these cars are front end heavy so try losing weight in the front also try adjustable shocks so you san shift the cars weight instead of trying to replace the glass.

BLACK ICE has the right idea here. You need to get some weight reduction in the front end before you should start taking it off the back. I can only remember one place that sells lexan rear windows and they sell them as bolt on. To get them to replace the rear glass and fit into the sides you are gonna have to have it cut. You would also probably want to go with a fiberglass rear decklid too otherwise the weight will crack the lexan.

I highly doubt any cop is going to notice you have a lexan rear window in your car unless you put a sticker on or something. Depending on where you live you may have to swap the glass to pass inspection though.

As far as desireability of T-tops goes I think they are about the same. There are people who want the Lexan for the wieght, however, they also scratch really easily. Personally I would rather have glass because my lexan ones are scratched to ****.

I have both. The scratched up Lexan set that came on the car from the factory and a set of much prettier glass tops that I got for $50 off eBay. The glass ones are on the car right now.

About the hatch you have to read this hole tread it's very informative!!!!! Also Ive seen many debates about wheather swaping to lexan rear glass will give you traction loss, Id like to see some real proof.

If your Lexan tops aren't scratched too deep, you can wet sand and buff them and they will look like new.

The real problem....

...with the Lexan tops, at least mine, isn't really scratching, it's called "crazing" or a whole boatload of little cracks in the plastic.

I read an idea I really liked in another post. Somebody sanded down the outside of the Lexan and painted it black. Of course you lose any light coming through, but you can't have it all!!

I have both sets of tops, but I leave the Lexan in because the glass ones are a pain to take out and stash.

Of course if you are out in the cold, the glass ones would probably stand up better.
