polishing compound then wax?

I just bought a black 89 GTA and the paint is "dull" you could put it. On all my cars I've always hand buffed it with turtle wax polishing compound, then waxed it. On the bumpers I used some Scratch Out polish then wax them.

This method seems to work OK, but it takes alot of time. I'm not too fond of using a buffer. I have a $20 walmart one but it is a POS. Any suggestions?

why can't you just take it in some place and have somebody else do it? but if you want to save a couple of bucks, go buy a good electric polisher, and buff your car and then wax it, it would work alot better than doing it by hand. but is why I want you to take it in is because you can easily burn through the paint, especially on edges.
