Interchangability ?????

Hey,

I'm a fellow bird owner here on these forums and I wanted to know if there really is a age limit on bird bodies. Like I have a 91' V6 bird that needs some body work. But it's all bolt on donor car stuff. And what I wanted to know is do I have to get one within a certain year or is it ALL interchagable like the camaros ? I don't know how it all works for sure to tell you the truth. I don't know enough about the cars and it's interchangablility to really do anything....  :alert:

almost everything can interchange between years. Doors are the same for all thirdgens, camaro or firebird. Fenders will work from any year bird, but may have different holes for ground effects and may or may not have the vent behind the wheel that came on the Trans Ams. Bumper covers had three different designs (at least for TAs). there was 82-84, 85-90 and 91-92. Each of those sets of years had their own style ground effects also. There were several different hood designs, but they all interchange. I've heard that the 91-92 headlights are slightly different than the older ones to match up to the different style nose that lines up flush rather htan having a small pocket. I think i've covered most of it. Ask and i'm sure tons of people can help out on any other specific questions.

Cool, well nice to know the ruff stuff is covered. Now taht I know I can pretty much look for any old donor. I need to know about front ends. Yuo said something about teh head lights. I fI get a donor and take the INTIRE front end can I just do that rather tehn take JUSt the bumper? Cause if you saw my car on cardomain.com then you know I have wuite some work ahead of me. But nothing I can't handle. NOw I need to knw percisely if I can use the front end parts and not have to worry about body lines and all...so would it be good to look for a donor 87-88 and up to mkae sure alot of the smoothness on the fron works good ? Or does it really not matter ? I know alot of this sounds repeated I just want to make sure Idon't buy the wrong thing.

Don't worry, whatever style you go with it will bolt up to your bird just fine. You just have to be sure that the headlights and the bumper cover match eachother. The fenders have the same body line for any year (again they may or may not have the a hole for the plastic fender vent or holes for gound effects based on the model and options on the particular car). If you look around the boards a bit, you'll see the difference in the front nose design from 82-84, 85-90, and 91-92. If you decide on using the 91-92 bumper style that you have now, you need to get headlights from a 91-92 car. The 82-90 headlights all look the same, but they have different electrical connections for the headlight motors (I'm prettys sure that the 82-84 have 2 wires connectors and 85-90 have 3 wires). If you choose an older front nose, you'll have to look on your bird and see which headlight motor connection type you have. Like i said before, the hoods are all able to mix and match.Hope that cleared it up a little more.

Sweet, nice to see another '91/'92 'Bird owner. Like you mine is currently in a state of deconstruction. I have a '91 also, with the g0d-forsaken 3.1. Saved it from a local 'yard for cheap in December. Luckily, your's doesn't look in to bad of shape (then again the pics are'nt the best). What does it all need? Looks like a fender, and a nosepiece to me. Good luck with finding a nose piece. The '91/'92 seem to be the hardest to find,at least for me anyways Anyways, check out the classifieds. I've had good luck so far with them.
