What else should I do to the interior guys?
As you can see I’ve already spray painted many things close to body color. The shift plate, Radio plate, door panels, front speaker covers, foot vents, and hood defroster vent.
I am getting new summit racing seats. They are the new ones that are $200 a piece. Seen below. I am also going to be getting new hawks leather rear seat covers to match the front. I am not going to go 4th gen seats because I like racing seats much better.
I think I will eventually go 4th gen console but most likely not dash.
New carpet is going to be a must. I have so many stains from previous owners its not even funny.
My questions are what I would do to theme this thing for show car readiness. I am going to be keeping the body color when I get it repainted. The outside is going to be mostly platinum, small amount of black; interior will be mostly black and small amount platinum. Is this a good theme, or what? What should I do to complete the theme?
I think I saw somewhere where somebody carpeted the rear plastic panel, since mine are falling apart each time I touch them (when I touch them I get gray stuff on my hands they are decomposing already). So this will fix that.

If your carpet is in good shape, you could always dye it as a less expensive alternative. Then you can do it any color.
The first thing that stuck out to me was the steering wheel. If you like it, maybe take the paint off the spokes and polish em or paint em that silver or something.

Well uh..... whats wrong with the silver guys? DOes it just not match. The seast i'm getting will be black leather. The material i'm recovering the doors with is gonna be black leather. The silver will match eventually. It just needs some time.

The thing that is wrong with the paint is that it looks like paint...therefore it looks tacky and cheap. I'm sure if you painted it back to black it wouldn't look that noticible, or go to a bone yard and get new plastics. I think the paint around the gauges isn't bad though...but your console just

I agree with getting rid of the painted plasitc. New pieces aren't that expensive or hard to find. Also replace the rear plastic instead of recovering the nasty brittle originals. Once again, there not hard to find and they can be any color if your gonna carpet them anyways. Second, ditch the wheel and the fake fur. The wheel just doesn't do it for me, but the stock 3-spoke Firebird does. But the fur...well, just looks tacky and outta place. Besides those things, I think you have a very sweet ride.

uh huh.......... Hmmmm when i first did the silver everyone loved it. Maybe you should see it up close cause it looks very nice up close. Although it does look like paint it still looks nice. I love the silver and dont think that i will ever change it. I will be getting a 4th gen console soon so the console will stay as is until then.
i mean look at the paint it looks professional,
Now your dissing the fur again. The fur armrests are very cool, you just have to see them in person. I mean the upholstry shop i'm working for now was astounded by how good they look and the craftman ship. The only reason i got that job/internship was because of my fur. They thought it was the coolest thing ever.
There are a few things i can understand changing, but the fur, thats separates my car from anyone elses in the world. Never gonna take that out.
The silver however i can see changing, it might change it when i redo the console, buit i dont know. IT separates my car. I actually used automotive paint on it, primered it, sanded it. I spent lots of time on that thing. I might change it however. But i'll have to ask a few people who have seen it in person first cause everyone likes it. My girl friend brags about my fur. She gets mad when girls sit in it for a second to pet the fur. LOL.
Anyways,

here is what the fur looks like in person guys,

The fur relaly does look cool. Its not out of place you just have to feel the whole theme. When and if i ever goto a gathering you'll see. I most likely cant go this year cause ummm..... certain things, like prom is gonna be expensive, the girl friend has something "special" happening to her at the moment. We just cant go. But as soon as i do i guarentee you guys will be stunned by the fur and whatever else i do.

Your craftmanship and time spent aside....I don't have to see it in person to feel it seems out of place and tacky. I commend your efforts, but you'll always get criticism for what you did. Also I am by no ways a stock ****...far from it, I like modification and personal taste included, but somethings are tasteful and well done while others are not.

I don't think I sounded that way at all. I like some of your ideas and I have nothing against you...just getting that out of the way. I was just expressing my opinion, which you don't have to agree with. Why is something always a ladies getter to you? Not everything is about image, you don't have to brag all the time, it just makes you sound insecure. Just giving you some sound advice. With that said I have another suggestion...get some embroidered floor mats and some pedals from this place....I think that would add a little flair.[

Well as of now a new rule for the interior is the fur stays. The fur is an awesome mod. I mean when I brought it in to get painted they loved my fur, when the alarm was installed they loved it. People love the fur. The door handles are also very cool. You really just need to experience it. Once I get these seats,
The car interior will completely change. Then when I redo the door panels, install a 97+ center console, and the hawks leather rear seat covers, and my car will be awesome. Well all them and new carpet and such.
The fur isn't just a material possession guys, it’s got my own sentimental value. Don’t know why, but until I say so it will never go. The fur is what makes my car different, and will stay that way. People love it.
Reason why I talk about the ladies in that way is if the ladies like it then a whole lot of other people will too. Girls have that interior design gene in them.
But the paint, I don’t know but it might go, I don’t know yet. I'll have to evaluate this. The fur, no, no, no. The fur stays, until I say other wise. If a judge at a car show says it’s got to go, then I still won’t take it down. IT wouldn't be fair because it’s not what looks cool its how it all blends together in a way too have its own independent styling. Once I’m done it will be completely different from what anyone has ever seen.

also would a bar like this make the entire interior project useless. I mean its for the Racing Harness. But it is also 4th gen,but i'm sure it can be modded for the 3rd gen.

Ok your taste is "Bad eye for the bow tie" that being said you have once again asked a question and argued with almost everybody that answered it, there is a common theme in all of your posts Fur, Girlfriend, and ignorance why don't you just put in your sig
"don't bother answering any of my questions because I really don't want to hear your opinion I just want to talk about my fur, girlfriend and prove that I just don’t want any help"

i want help, ok, i really do. But dont dawg on the fur..... please!!!!!!! I respected your opinion on the silver i did. But the fur will never leave and you juist have to respect that, please! I heard every other idea, but the fur has sentimental value, i wont explain becuase well, i'm sure you dont wanna hear about it.
If you really want me to put that in my sig then well i'll do it. I have no problem embarassing myself, i dont relaly care. But you have to respect my decision on the fur and work around it.
As a designer, if someone says to keep something that they really like, you just have to desgin around that one object to make the rest of the room fall in. This is the same with the car. This is not that complicated. I dont really appreciate you guys always dawgin on the fur. It was one of my best and well crafted mods i have done to date. I will never give it up.
Alright guys, just please dont get on my fur anymore. Critique everything else except the fur, if you have any respect towards me at all please direct it towards that. I'd really appreciate it!

Wanna hear my opinion, I dotn like the purple looking door panels, the steering wheel needs a color change, the seat belts need replacing because they are faded, I need new seast cause the seat cover arn't cutting it, i need new pedals, I can possibly let go of the fur on the door handles but thats it, Floor mats, with a Trans Am logo need to go in, new carpet, and i can will see what i can do about the silver paint also.
You see gusy i took your seggestion, but you just have to respect my fur. Please do so. If you have any respect for me at all please give it tot the fur idea.

i didn't ask for anyone to dis the fur man. That was never in the question. I wanted what i should add to the interior basically. But instead i got take the silver off and remove my beloved fur. I'm sorry to say that the fur wont go. I dont care what for thr fur will never go. It is part of the car now.
I just wish you guys could respect the fur. The fur is my own decision, and i'm sticking with it. Some of you can respect that, and i appreciate you for it, but for all fo you who always talk about how bad it is you need to get over it and respect my decision. I'd appreciate it.
Thanks,
Shane

I used to be a big fan of painted interior until I did it to my car. It looked good for about a year then the heat started to get to it and it faded plus from every day wear the paint started rubbing off. Now im in the middle of redoing my whole interior and Im going all stock except for 4th gen seats to me nothing looks better on a 20 year old car then interior that looks brand new. bottom line do what looks good to you. IMO if you dont want to be critizied dont ask the question. just my .02 dont take it personal

Yeah man, I dont think anyone was makin fun of the fur. You asked for an opinion, you got one. Gotta chill man
Anyways, I do agree that those seats do look nice. A little overkill for the street if you ask me though (I assume it's a street car). One question though, how is the paint on the shift boot holding up? I would figure it cracks and flakes when you shift

Alright guys I’ll chill.
Nah the paint of the shift boot has been there for 6 months now and has never needed to be repainted, not once. I have no cracks in it at all, it’s perfect.
So my list goes as follows-
-Recover Door Panels
-Paint Steering Wheel
-Replace Seat Belts
-New Summit Racing Seats
-New Pedals
-Floor Mats w/Trans Am logo
-New Carpet
-Do something about the Silver Paint
-4th Gen Console
-Rear Seat Covers
-Maybe Some New Gauges
To tell you the truth though, most of that list will be done. But the paint will stay until most of the interior is redone to see what you think then. The gauges I don’t know about. I'd maybe like to have an a-pillar gauge set but that’s it.
I might just get somebody to remake all the painted stuff into aluminum so it will look better. It won’t look as you guys said "painted." The door panels wont be too hard, the speak covers will be, and the center consoles going to be replaced soon with a 4th gen. The little vents can be done quite easily, but I like the silver. Silver is my favorite color, I hate gold, white gold is ok, and I love platinum also. I think the silver paint is awesome and so do most people who see it. I don’t know how else I’d get those panels to look silver without painting them, do you?
I also don’t get what looks so bad about my steering wheel. I mean to me it looks awesome. Is it because you can get them for $20 at the local parts store? Is it because they look plain? I don’t care if it’s cheap, I don’t care if it’s plain I like the style. I might just try to sand down to the bare steel and polish them. If that don’t work then it'll have to go back to black. The Horn button however I’d like to see gets chromed. That would look awesome.
Well these are just a few new suggestions I though of while in school, tell me what you think.

I see you mentioned guages, well if you keep the silver paint, how about silver faced guages that match the rest of the int.?
The more I look at your pics, what I think would look nice is...since you're adamant about keeping the fur, do a 2 tone theme, match everything to either the headliner or the silver. Paint the panel that outlines the guages, the door sills, etc. keep away from 4-5 different shades of grey.

I mentioned it cause imo, its looks like a 20$ steering wheel, with the ring obviously foam. Which I really dont like. But hey, I dont have alot of room to talk, I have an older 3rd gen 3spoke wheel in mine that I got for like 5-10 bucks.

Well, anything thats not the same color as the roof or the console, paint or match up somehow. Interior panels, maybe paint dark grey. All that stuff thats standard firebird grey so to speak. Guages, silver. Carpet, match it to the roof. That way, everything is uniform and smooth, but still with some contrast.
Like your door panels...they look like they have 5 shades of grey/black on em.

hmmmm....... this would actually be a nice thing. I can see it now. I could actully do this stuff too. Hmmm....... gray panels, silver guages and dark gray/black carpet. OMG i got a vision that this will be the coolest thing ever. I'll give you credits once its done. That is an awesome idea.

alright i'm getting the gas pedals, ones just like these,

you saw the seats, and i did find me some silver gauges but wanted to ask were you guys talking about replacing the whole guage of the guage plates(ie: the color)
Also, should i go with a two tone color carpet or one thats in the middle of the Fur? I can see going light gray/dark gray, of just a medium to dark gray color. I'd like the two tone much better.

lol, can't believe i read all that..
instead of painted silver.
redo everything in brushed aluminum, and have it a bit anodized to look platinum, same w/ small trim around guages, and same w/ pedals(i've seen this, it looks fckin sexy).
fur, i'm fine w/, to me, it's more of a gangsta impala thing, but what you like is what you like...but i must admit.. sitting in a pimped out furry place is kinda cozy & cool. But, instead of just having it on doors & ceiling(making it not much).. how about give it more of a "i'm here" type feel, instead of just here & there.. ya know? i think if you put something like that into something, it should be enough that you don't have to look at only this place, or this place, instead.. this place & 2 other places. but.. it's your furr. (what color is it? i can't tell, looks purple, looks grey... looks.. i have no clue)
with capret.. dang.. i gotta replace mine too. lol
with seats... dood, i duno if you really wanna do that w/o a cage, you roll w/o a cage, strapped into those seats, kiss your butt goodbye, i suggest you read what i've read on these forums... it's not safe to be strapped in w/ seats like that & the harnessses that they use w/o a cage... taht's why i won't do it yet. not to mention, i don't have an engine that i need a cage, so thereforre i won't get the seats and harnesses.
with the steering wheel... i think a platinum/metal look would be cool...silverish i mean. But.. not with that one. that one screams out "i'm in a junkyard truck" to me. out of an old pickup or something. i've seen it. If your wanting those fake leather seats(very nice may i add[cept i slide too much in leather for my likings, racing or not])... go fake leather steeringwheel, so it matches, and get it w/ the aluminum/metal/chrome look.
the guages, ya.. white face would look sweet.
w/ the console, 4th gen does look good in our cars, even w/ the 3rd gen dash... same w/ the door panels(depending on which model you get it out of).
keep the outside paint man... dood, i'd give my left toe for paint like that, mine's all crappy... don't complain about the paint, it's good, it's fine man... if you want it better, wetsand & then have 5 more coats of gloss, then wetsand again... i've seen 13-14 coated gloss paint jobs, on even colors like that.. and it's just mind boggling at how beautiful it is.
ohya.. where you the one w/ the speakers just laying in the back?
don't feel kicked, i'm not gonna say that's bad.. i did it too... cept w/ kicker comps. BUt.. what i do suggest, is getting some MDF, and getting the plans(i have them if you want them)... and building a sub box, that goes in the back of the hatch... you know, that big hole in the back... i now have 3 kicker comp 10's.. powered by xplod amp(got it all for free, supposed to have 4 10's.. ohwell.. llamas).. but.. looks very nice, and i have them tilted a bit into the cab. the sound is crazy.. even w/ two i noticed a diff w/ them being back there. that would help your car look a bit more show worthy as well. it's just a pain in the a$$ to build the box.. but.. DO NOT buy them.. pfft, ripppppoffffffffs. built mine for 18 bucks... not even that i dun think. & like.. 2.5 week day nights working on it w/ my father (he's the carpenter, not me)
ya so..
furr = whatever, it's your choice.
steering wheel = your choice, i say nay.
silver look = cool, but should be metal. & black shifter boot(the contrast would look good, believe me).
seats & belts &that bar = not good idea w/o cage cuz you could be dead or seriously hurt in roll over.
what else...
all in all, nice car. not many things you need to do to make it look all that much better.. you got most of it in your head already.. exterior it's great. interior, like.. 10 things, wow, not 50 like mine.
gj. & good luck w/ it.

ummm the fur no longer shed. When i first put it in i brushed it everyday to stop it from shedding. Now you can rub all in it with good clothes and wont find any on you.
Yeah those pedals are awesome. goto to see them-

Seriously why do you post **** asking for opinions and then get all pissy when people give them to you.. I haven't seen one post where you dont respond negatively to criticism. All I see is you posting about all this crap your gonna do and you've what.. got a ****ty paint job, put in a fur headliner, and painted you panels an ugly silver color. Get realistic about what you can do and don't waste peoples time post **** thats never gonna happen and then get mad at them for criticizing you

Well I do take criticism, nut I don’t like it when someone completely says it just looks ugly. You could be a bit more explanatory on what I could do to make it match and such. Those are the kind of posts I wanted. I asked what else should I do, not what should I take off. That’s completely different.
I'd hope you guys could like the fur; you really just have to see it. Until you do, please don’t dis the fur. I worked to hard of that thing and to make it look absolutely flawless. Then to come to the board and have all of you say it looks gay, ya know that really hurts your pride. I don’t car anymore though. I get hat none of you like the fur, but you don’t have to completely dis the fur. Do like the one d0d0 did and help me make it look good. Not just say your opinion that it looks gay, maybe enclose your opinion and then tell what I should do to make it match.
Thanks,
Shane
P.S. some people do like the fur, and all you that don’t, just leave it alone.

They don't have to go to another thread to view those pedals, I gave you the link to the place some posts up. Its a place called Auto Vation and they sell pedals for a bunch of cars. I've heard they actually have ones with the Firebird logo and not just WS6...I think you might have to call and ask though. As for the metalic look you want to give your car on the console and such...go here to Also corp..click here. That stuff is kick ***, you can cut it with scissors and then stick it on to the plastic and have it look like brushed aluminum. I do suggest you take things step at a time, don't say yoúre gonna do all those things only to change your mind about something in another post. Be open to suggestions and see what everyone says before you decide on something. You seem to like one idea and go with it because you think its "cool" or bring in the babes, and then a few posts later someone else says something and you're like..."wait, I'm gonna do this now" So just hear everyone out first.
