u was about to say the same jsut caught that nah u jsut sand the clear and buff it.

yur not really supposed to buff or nothin for least 48 hrs to a week well 72 hrs or something.

but if u get it painted say a monday and u let it set in the sun and bake all day long tues and its liek 60s or 70s or higher it should be ready wed. to buff it.

but yea dont need to wax new paint job itll be nice and pretty for awhile.

when i do mine im goin to tel u that id liek to spray it let it dry a week or so then start wet sanding and vufing because for one gives paint more time dry up but il be using hardner gloss in mine which makes it dry quicker.
and i need to make up my dumbassed dmaned mine abotu stripes lol before i go to buffin it.
i have a time makin decisions so i got to decide on them in that time frame.
but il prolly get too excited about it n just buff in a day or 2 but definately goin to let mine bake in the sun a day or 2

very different

I have to admit that, if someone had described your car to me, I would have thought it would be an aesthetic disaster, but looking at how the lines of the notchback flow into the lines of the spoiler, and imagining it with that nice subtle scoop on the hood, super gloss black, I think you will have a winner on your hands when it is painted.

It seems to me that a lot of guys on this board think everything has to be stock to be "right". That makes for a very boring world.

Please post photos when it is painted. I am very interested to see what she looks like in her new coat!

Good Luck

thanx troy

i agree with you on that the "stock" gurus are plentiful (no im not flaming with anyone so please dont start) but i appreciate the compliments i will try and get some pics of the car with the hood on it so you can get a better idea of what it looks like with it on there and hopefully another week and it will have color on it.

here you go people

here is a shot of the passenger side after a quick shot of primer to keep the rain thats moving in from rusting the whole side of the car that i got down to bare metal.
and yes i know the ground effects isnt done i wasnt to worried about that because i wasnt done sanding those down yet.

hey man i would not recommend that paint!!!!!!!
the saying u get what u pay for definately goes for paint!!!!!!!
we got some cheap junk here sold by auto body store for like 50 a gallon or less called westerns auto.
its junk. it wont shine wont last nothin.
weve done 2 cars w/ it one fullsize white chevy after a year or so no buffing just hand waxin that sorta thgin had some shine but showed the paint underneath or somethgin cuz it had brown spots.
they werent there when it was done just started showin up waxin n junk wouldnt help it any.
we done a van in the silver supposedly.
my dad done it i was too young but i argue him up n down that van is not silver its brown or dark green or somethgin no lie its aweful!!!!!!!!!!
he swears when they done it it was silver n so did other ppl but within a year it had faded n turned **** brown no shine wont buff up nothin its the most aweful paint ever..
so id say any other paint would be too i was goin to buy some off ebay for 30 a gallon but my dad talked me out of it because very car done w/ cheap stuff was just that looked and was cheap looked like big time crap.
oh yea nice shiny n clean ocne done but after month or so started showin age quickyl and badly.
turnin dull and even changeing shade.
w/ black i doubt it change it get dull and maybe turn to primer black /flat black look alike or dark grey if anything.
but come to think of it the fullsize in white n van in silver both were turnin ****ty brown so that paint i dunno i wouldnt trust it less it was just to cover body work so u could get rid of the car asap.

i never seen ppl use clear coat over acrylic enamel because as it says it dont need it and u can buff it up to be nice.

if u spray the enamel or color down then use any kinds of compounds u wont be able to clear it yull have to wet sand and then wax/grease or prepsal as its called the whole car.
which would defeat the purpose of buffing the color now jsut wet sanding it thats fine cuz u gotta smooth it out or let it dry before clear coat?
bc/cc paint u dont u do color then spray clear over it w/ flash time but still a lil tacky or completey dry man its been botu 2 yrs since i used bc/cc im not sure.
anyoen knows if u have to let the bc dry before cc plz post it so we know for sure.
if u do have to let acrylic dry before clear then definatly sand it so its smooth but save the final wet sand and buffing for the clear coat.

paint im goin to buy is a lil unfamialr to other ppl but is great paint its centari brand.
its costly but i think if im not mistakin cheaper then sherwin willams and dupont but tis great paint lasts about forever.
even that fullsize we done it over w/ white centari brand acrylic enamel, it set for over 2 or 3 years n turned dull and green due to dirt n mold n junk i took a brillo pad n scrubbed the whole truck w/ it u could see white in the water when i was done liek wet sanding it. took some wax and buffed it off w/ buffer shined just like when ws 1st painted.
thatw as the 1st time that truck had ever been waxed as well.
we drove it for around 2 or 3 yrs before parkin it w/o waxin and stil shined like fresh paint w/o wax just normal wash .
i **** u not my friend honest story no lies.
i have no checked the price on the dupont or williams paint for wht i want on my car for comparison for prices mainyl because my dad used centari many times and ive seen the results kinda if it aint broke dont fix it.
i want to paint my car n not worry abotu shine a year later or so. do it right do it once sorta deal so i stick to my guns n go w/ what i know is tried and true and been tested n personalyl seen the results so i stick w/ centari brand.

for dads s10 red its 57 a quart for paint alone so like 175 or so for a gallon i think no more then 200 i think
mines 125 for gallon of big flake silver metallic.
its definately worth the cash tho.

hey benoit

thanx for responding i checked into a sherwin williams dealer locally and i priced black for my car and the guy said it was like 130 a gallon not including the clear , and the ppg place wanted like 230 a gallon and i was like ummm, hell no , but a really close buddy of mine is the 1 that recommended that brand to me and that he has used it a few times before and it has been very good no flaking or dulling so i dont know i understand you get what you pay for thing but im trying not to invest a crap load of money into the paint cuz im also trying to get a engine block to build BUT i also want it to shine like in the pic above that i showed you so im puzzled on what paint to buy as that the places around here arent very helpful and they like there paint a LITTLE too much in my opinion. any of you have any ideas of what paint to use would be greatly appreciated. thanx,

thomas

looks good only thgin gets ya is how old the paint was at the time of the pic.
like i said that westerns we used looked good for a bit but then turned aweful. but that centari trust me itll have more shine then that paint on that truck w/ the same amount of less work work to make it shine.

i would buy some paint n try but man id hate to have spray it n it be junk then have sand it off and do it over.

id say go for it man itll look good forawhile and if it messes up start puttin money back to buy some good stuff.

least then yull have experience more so and the 2nd time around will be better then 1st if u have to do it over.
yull get shine out of it forawhile how long nobody knows but its worth a try for that price tho.

just wait till the color flashe then put on the clear. save your money and get some ppg or dupont. that's all I use. you don't want to skimp out. all the hard work you've already done you could end up doing again when the cheap paint craps out and fades.

yep i afree jared but if he wants to try some cheap n dont care to have to sand and redo it later then he could try cheap but like i originally said for mine and my recomendation id use some good stuf dupont cheaper but should be good paint ive heard it was but ive only used centari its as good as or better then dupont n williams n stuff.

its yur chioce man good stuff later or saved up and not worry about it. or cheapy and maybe sand it off and redo later like a week a month months weeks or maybe year or more later but itll end up needing redone later.

ok lets try this

how good is sherwin williams theres another guy here that has a store that has a whole section for nothing but auto paint and i can prolly get him to cut me a deal since my father in law knows him real well. how good is sherwin williams auto paint. hes a sherwin williams dealer but he mixes his own paint also. i dont mind paying more but i just wanna make sure that its gonna be better. i just cant see paying 230 for ppg no offense especially for ss paint thats just a little steep for my pocket book. oh and benoit who makes the centauri i dont know if anyone around here sells it or not.

I'm far from a body man, but here's my opinion. I have had a few cars painted with DuPont Centari acrylic enamel. It has served me very well. It shines nice. Touch up is easy (relativly speaking). And if it gets neglected, a buffing will bring back it's original luster. Just keep it well cleaned and waxed and I think it is a very good system for cost and ease of use. That's my unproffesional opinion.

I aggree that the centari is a good paint for the money. You can color sand and buff this paint too and it WILL look like a show car paint job..just not as deep as the 2 stage.
It is easier to repair than the 2 stage also.

Be carefull to tell your friend that some gallon cans of centari paints have the wrong mixture ratio printed on them regarding the amount of reducer. Ask the paint supplier about this because I had to double the ratio to get the paint to flow...and the paint supplier told me that yes, some of the cans dont tell you this, so when you mix up your reducer to what the specs say and it still looks too thick, try spraying some and then add more reducer to suit your taste. I had to resand and repaint my streetrod because of this and boy was I mad! The paint supplier told me he would buy me half of a gallon of paint if I bought the other... he still owes me LOL

Ive decided to go with the omni brand bc/cc system except im using the dupont clear which i was told it was a higher quality clear and it would shine and last longer.

My only recomendation is to not use black and do it yourself. I also learned the hardway. I painted dark green once. Looks really, really bad. Black shows all imperfections. I know you want that color, but maybe consider some help if you do that. Otherwise stick to a lighter color that won't show all the F_ups so bad. I'm going to pay someone to do mine this time.

hey thomas make sure that the omni bc/ and the dupont cc will work together n mix just ask the body shop supply store because if they wont match or work one on top the other itll really screw up.

ive been talking to the guys over at paintucation and they actually told me to go with the omni which is of course ppg made and the mc161 clear which is crystal clear like water(no yellow tint like the dupont) and i just made up my mind (and so did the BOSS LADY a.k.a. my wife) that i can get the bc/cc system for a show car quality shine like i want in the pic i posted of the front of that camaro and i was thinking why go cheap then have to do it over again after just a short time because as i have said before ive put wayyyyyyy too many hours into this car just to have to do it over.

yeap thats what i was saying thomas.

but now w/ single stage like centari they make a gloss wet-look hardner which makes it shine just as good as un buffed clear or better.
we used dupont and rm clear coats alot they had no tint in them ppg is the most expensive stuff u can buy next to house of kolors im pretty sure.
if u want the best u gonna pay for the best like ppg or hok.
but u want affordab;e yet show car quality dupont makes good stuf esp the centari.
and to improve on single stage u can clear coat over it but if u mix in the gloos hardner w/ yur paint and as u clean yur gun w/ the thinner litely very lightly spray over the car youll be amzed.

as for the yellow rumor its just that i beleive were as neglected paint lets parts rust n turns dull clear turns yellow if its neglected. and eventualy flakes thats what ive seen form experience no matter what it is.

but the paint u goin for should be a good quality esp pppg n stuff.

yea good idea man cardomain is about the best cuz its got search engine n stuff but for some reason i got the link to mine and its active but u cant search n find mine for some reason its weird.

man i can't beleive ppg was cheaper then dupont centari that's awesome i've always heard ppg was right to the top w/ h.o.k. paints.

they alwast use ppg on monster garage n like the choppers shows n stuff must be great stuff.

and its always *** idea to get pics to well document it because if u was to sale it and pl was asking u could show em or just braggin rights to show work went into it that u done yurself like mine.
and one thgin i regret badly is on our s10 we had no befores.
man its chnaged so much i seen the truck n so did some other ppl before hand but now we cant even remember how it looked for a mental pic.
so i get alot of mine and still would have liked more to even better document all the stuff idone.

definately man post me up a link so i can go see it.

Thanks for the compliment! (That's my black Z-28 that you posted the picture of).

Good luck on your project!

The best advice I can give you is to just take your time. Don't ever get in a hurry to finish anything. If you get tired or frustrated, just walk away for a few days.
