racing seat & harness

I need some suggestions for an affordable and supportive racing seat for a 91 RS used in autocross. Do I need a rollcage to have harness belts or do they attatch to the seat itself?
Thanks

I believe that there are some posts that show in detail the different ways that you can put a racing seat and harness in a car. You might want to try doing a search first.

But . . . if you have a harness that is specifically designed to be mounted to the floor, in an accident it can actually do more harm to you than help. If you get a rool cage and get a harness that is roll cage mounted then it will help you out. That is what I plan on doing. Right now I have a floor mounted harness that I got for $20 which is something I couldn't pass up. I plan on putting it in next tuesday.

the best advice anyone can give for thoes seats is to tell you to sit in them... sit in as many as you can, and get a feel for them... just be aware that the cheaper ones may feel just as nice, but they wear out alot easier... if its not a daily driver, it wont be a prob, but if it is, get one that has rubber, plastic,or leather on the high spots of the seat... otherwise you'll wear thru there getting in and out.

depends.

for AUTOCROSS ONLY and to just hold you in the seat, a floor mount could work...

but if you ever get in a accident with one, theres a high chance of it compressing your spine and injuring you. if you wear it anyowhere besides the autoX parking lot, you need to have it mounted to a roll bar.. you want it at a slight upward angle..... 90* back or anywhere within 5* of that is ideal... if you have to go up some, its fine, but dont angle it back down. otherwise, as you're thrown forward in a crash, the belt pulls down on your collar bone.... snapping it or compressing your back (or both).
the BEST method is on a roll bar.

and i believe the SCCA has a rule stating that if non factory style belts are used, a rollbar must be installed anyway......:lala:

define affordable....?

going cloth in any seat will lower costs greatly by almost half in most instances. pep boys currently has a few really nice seats that sell for under 400 a pair however i forget the names. remember though that on a daily driver they probably won't last with the material used......again the money you save could be used to recover them down the road.

anyhow there are plenty of options. here is a basic page to get you started. if you want something affordable but nicer check out corbeau, sparco and a few others that also offer some really nice things but your looking more towards 400 a seat in cloth.
