Hood latch -- broken

my hood latch /cable doesn't work.. it takes me forever and about 30 bangs on the hood before I can get it to open. How do I go around fixing this ? any kits out there ? any experience with this ? this very difficult ?
thanks
Chris

Car: 1992 Camaro RS - not real slow anymore...
Engine: SPDC 360 MAF EFI /w a Holley Stealth Ram
Transmission: T5 untill it blows up from to much torque

check if the metal under it is bent. (the u bar metal latch under the hood. If not, check where it latches into(the body). I bet one of them is bent. Also, if one of your struts is week, might make it harder to lift up, but not harder to open, there is a spring in their for that.

struts status

both struts are worthless.. and so are the headlights.. but I need to be able to open the trunk first before I can replace them.. the hood doesn't pop right now at all.. and I even try to pull it.. but nothing.. I have something moving around when I pull the cable.. but no opening..

talkin about the HOOD not the trunk, correct? well i got my handle and cable from GM for 20 bucks. comes complete ready to put in. all you do is feed the new cable through the old location and it connects to the latch by sittin under a little prong you bend over it to hold the cable. VERY simple. if its the latch, those are kinda pricy for a new one. i think i paied 60 for it. comes with grease already applied and its 2 bolts to install. if you get the money id replace both at once and forget about it
