hatch moter problems
Well, today in traffic I was doing about 20, it was rush hour in my area thank ***, but my girlfriend, starts calling my name, so I look in the rear view mirror to see what she wants and the freaking hatch was all the way open. so I pull over, and look at it, the hatch wont close, so I take a closer look at the moter and latch that holds it down. It's stuck in the down position and for some reason wont come up. So I press a few moveable things on it hoping one of them will do somting, and like magic, one of the things brought up the moter, it caught the hatch and closed it. Now, why'd it do this, can I expect this again, from time to time? is there a permanent solution.
P.S. It hasnt done this before, and not since it happened today.

It could have been caused by something as simple as the latch hook engaging the striker-sensing switch, but not latching in the latch. The fact that it stayed down and you had to fiddle with the striker-sensing switch to get it to come up tells me that your striker-sensing switch is going bad. The contacts inside have become worn to the point that it fails to work sometimes. It will only get worse with time. You may be able to buy some time by spraying the switch with contact cleaner. If you're looking for reliability, I'd replace the switch. The switch isn't repairable. Bad news is that GM discontinued the switch last year. I still have a few NOS switches in stock and available through my web site.
Good luck,

Call Lon at TDS, he was at our 3rd gen statewide meet and repaired a hatch pull down motor on a picnic table!!
I know that's him on the above post, but he knows what he's doing.
