Dull Paint

I have an 84 Blue camaro that was repainted its original color. The hood, roof and trunk are all dull while the rest of the car still shines, im afraid to use compound wax because I dont know if there is enough paint under there. Ive already waxed it 3 times. Any reccomendations?

mine was like that as well, it's from the sun, i never did find anything to fix mine up, i just got it re-painted the way i wanted in the first place. But keep trying to find something cause it's a lot cheaper *lol*

The hood, roof, and trunk could be like that due to the sun, or they could be like that due to overhead contaminants in the paint shop. If there was stuff, like dust or whatever, left floating around from grinding or sanding, whatever, name it, maybe a gravel road to the paint shop, and your car sat with wet paint the dust is gonna collect on the top a lot more than the sides. It could also be dull because of both conditions.

It shouldn't hurt to go over it with some light rubbing compound, but I don't think I'd hit it with a high-speed grinder w/a polishing wheel or anything. Rubbing compounds and stuff take off such a minimal amount of paint it's more or less unreal thickness wise.

Hope this helps out a little. ---J.Bird
