Removing Door panel
Removing Door panel
I just had a quick question about removing my door panel in order to replace my power window motor. My car is a 1992 Firebird and I can't figure out how to take the power lock/door handle part off along with the door panel. Sorry if this is an obvious question, but I am new to this stuff.
I removed mine with the help of a manual, it's a little tricky, BUT the manual warns about trying to change the motor yourself because if you haven't done it before on this type of window you can lose a finger, BUT this is what my friend also advised (he's a mechanic)...
"The window motor is riveted in with large rivets that have to be drilled out. Then you remove the window motor and regulator (thing with arms on it that go in the window track) as one assembly. Then you put it in a vise and hold on to keep it from moving when you take the motor off it (probably riveted too) if you let it go it could chop your fingers off (this is not good). There is probably a place to put a large screwdriver in it then you can let the pressure off slowly and it will stay in place. It doesn't matter what position it is in when you install the new motor as long as the gears mesh. A new motor will come with bolts to replace the rivets."
I'm taking mine in... I like to keep all my fingers
