Body & Door Molding

Does anyone know how the 83 Z body and door moldings are attached? They dont look like the regular stick and peel. It looks like they are made of aluminum or something. They are pretty strong and sturdy. How do I take these off? And does anyone know where I can get the 91-92 style molding?

for the molding, try classic industries. their camaro catolog is almost 900 pages. they have everything. not cheap, but quality parts.

i think the alloy piece is what holds the stripping down. i remember removing alloy pieces from the A pillars and t-top fitting on my 85 TA.

woops guess I should be more specific. Im talking about the moldings on the outside of the door and on the fender. The guard that protects you from dings and stuff.

ohhhh. the ones i have on my car are rivited. when the car goes in for paint, i'm going to have them pull it out and fill the tiny holes then paint. i'm going to go for the lowpro design found on the later 3rd gens. some people hate having them, but let me tell you, your better protected against other doors or shopping carts drifting through the parking lot.

they will either be stuck/glued there with adhesive* or rivited like mine are. either way if your going to pull them off, a flat head screw driver will work. if you want to save the paint on the doors, you'll have to be careful. i'm sure theres a less primitive way of taking them off, but i like to get the job done and ask questions later

The rubber part comes off the molding, and then the rivets will be exposed. I drilled them out. You might ding the car prying them off.

Yup. I took the rubber off. drilled the rivits out. then took a hairblow dryer to the adhesive and they came off very easily/ding free.
