Door Panels Worth The Price
I found a set of molded door panels in an '87 Formula today in a junkyard for $50.00 for everything. They're in pretty good shape other than the cloth inserts. I was going to dye them black & have the cloth replaced. Do these panels sound like it's worth it? Thanks Chris

If the cloth needs to be replaced it doesn't sound like they would have been worth 50 smackers... to me anyway. With that amount already invested, I would seriously consider buying another set of panels in good shape from a better salvage yard. Most people couldn't replace the cloth insert correctly if their life depended on it, let alone adding the price of the new cloth into the total. It's up to you to judge your own skills there, then post pics so we can pick on you. [joke]

If by 'molded' you mean the upper level plastic door panels then that's a pretty good deal. Replacing the cloth in them doesn't seem like it would be as hard as the regular panels.. You did make sure to the get metal brackets that are on the door right?

I have'nt bought them yet, I was just wondering if they would be worth the price. Those are the first set I've seen in a yard. I might put them in my '91 if they would look O.K. Chris

to ease the replacement of the cloth just use a border of some sort around the seem of the cloth to the vinyl so you dont have to make it a perfect fix, shouldnt be hard. If the cardbord backing is in good shape id say go for it. And DO NOT FORGET the backet that attaches it to the door (its riveted in) because its way different from yours.
Deos that include armrests and the part where the inside handle goes?

Taht's more than we'd charge at the yard i work at
but whatever. if they are in good shape other than the cloth and it includes everything (armrests, door handle trim AND the mounting piece) i'd say go for it and recovering the cloth insert isn't that hard i re did my entire door panels.

I got the same panels you're looking at for $30 at a yard including everything. I also plan on dying them black and replacing the cloth section (which does look like a pain in the *** and isn't close to as easy as doing the same thing on a stock panel!). The rivits are a pain, but with a cordless drill and some time you'll get them out. They're made of aluminum so you can drill them out. I had a fairly weak drill so it took me a while to remove the 4 rivits from each door. Here are the panels I got
