For those with SS hoods and no spring......

I have an SS hood and got tired of the spring not being mounted. Since I am not good with 'glass, I came up with the following:

Makes it much easier to close the hood, and it pops every time I hit the hood release.

I had just washed the engine bay, so it is still wet. This is what it looks like on the car:

That looks really tall and obvious, I think it would be more attractive if it was shorter; painted body color maybe. Good idea though, just could use some tweaking.

Well, if it were shorter, it would not pop the hood.

If you paint it, the paint would just crack and peel off. I dont know of any paint that would take that sort of flexing without cracking. Anodizing, maybe. Paint, nope.

Good point, though.

Sorry for the delay. It is mounted on a black aluminum plate with some "L" brackets to hold it up. Willie came up with the design and it works great. It is sort of suspended above the charcoal canister. I can get some different pics of it, if you would like.

Powder coat may work, not sure though. But who cares to begin with? It works, all that matters.

Does it make it any harder to close? Odd question i know

I've now resorted to the two man manuever, or the "invisible hand" to open my hood...

Not at all. In fact, it is easier to close now that I dont have to worry about the spring flying out when I do close the hood.

My wife was getting annoyed with me asking her to help open the hood every day. I figured this would work and it does! The hood pops just like factory every time I pull the hood release.

It's about time you fixed that thing! You've had that hood on for almost a year now.

I know, I know. At least it is fixed now. Just took me some time to figure out what to do and how to do it.

couldn't you mount it to the underside of the hood, like the original hood? i had a big block hood on my previous car, and it came with a place to put it.

on the underside of the hood, right where a stock spring would be, was 2 screw holes. there was a piece of thin metal that came in the box, maybe 1in.x3in. that had screw holes on either end. i stuck the thin piece of metal through the bottom coil of the spring, and bolted it to the hood. worked like a charm.

you got it from ASCD, right? i'd assume it'd come with the same things a BB hood would come with

The thing that makes it easy to do, even with a showcar is the fact you can easily just remove that one screw and take off the spring if you bothers you that much....

I take it you don't have an SS hood..........otherwise you'd love this thing.....

My SS hood came like that, but it worked terrible, wouldn't pop the hood up.....

odd..........i used the cheap little bar that came with the hood and my original stock spring and it works fine. painted my spring flat black 3 years ago with a spray can so it would look better and it hasn't flaked either......

odd.....

sorry i don't have better pics but the poor indoor lighting and having to crop it didn't help. you can get the idea though.....those with the ss hood you didn't get this cheap little piece of metal? i have gotten slight wear on the part of the spring that touches when closing but it takes many times. very easy to remove and i've only had to paint it once since i first painted the spring.

anyway it works for me.

My hood does not have anywhere to mount the spring. It is an ASCD, but the area where the spring would go is just smooth.

Yeah, functional. That is exactly what I was shooting for. Comes off easily with one screw. Then there is no spring on the hood or body.
