Why would you have to pay 100-200 bucks? That part is called the gear nut. It is available from your dealer (GM p/n 20160687) or from my web site as TDS p/n 109111.

Here is the hatch pull-down instructions from my web site.

Unless you want to keep it totally stock, or really like the motorized pull down hatch, I really recommend welding the tracks in place and making it a slam type hatch. Sounds ghetto but if you do it right it works great. I love it. I always had idiots that would slam my hatch after I told them to close it gently and didn't understand why I'd be pissed when they shut it. Otherwise get the gears and replace it. Thats also an easy fix, but I just didn't want to mess with it anymore.

yea i went to the local U-Pull it junk yard and alls they had was the regular latch without any power... i was considering welding that in but i didnt feel like it so i just went for the new gears... and if i see anyone pushing on my trunk im just gonna have to charge them for the possible damage.. lol..
