door alignment problem

i changed my driver side door because of rust (got one off a camaro and it went onto my firebird) but it's not liging up right. it's too far forward. are the doors different from camaro to firebird?
it's about 1/2" too far forward and hits the fender when i close it

i searched and found out that if the tab (below the fender) is bent, that it might do that.. but mine's not bent.

i've tried wiggling it and pulling it towards the back of the car (or out from the car) but it dosn't seem to want to go back

does anybody know if the doors are interchangable?
my next step is going to be pulling the door off and elongating the holes so that the door goes further back.

why are these doors soo heavy?

i have heard that they are the same....but I acan't personally verify this unfortunately . How does the door line up at the back (by the striker end)? Is it too big of a space by the same amount? If so, maybe thery are different. If not, maybe the hinges are bent on the new door....or perhaps try moving the fender up a hair.

hope this helps.........

The doors are all the same in general. I have interchanged them before. The problem is that no door is exactly the same. GM didn't have absolute tollerances when they built the doors so some might be a 1/8 or even a 1/4 inch shorter or longer than others. If the door is gapped correctly by the striker and it hits the fender then you are going to need to move your fender up a little bit.
