Final Destination for me .. Yeesh
Well two things happened to me last week. Thursday I was in training at work and actually had an hour lunch. Went home to visit GF and ran over something on the way back. turned out to be a kitchen knife.
Its a freeway drive between home and work, and the area it happened in was under road construction. There was no place to pull over when the incident happened. By the time I found a slanted place to pull over, my read driver side tire was shredded.
Lucky for me it was replaced under the road hazard warranty.
Second thing.
When my car was being driven onto the hoist, the guy managed to bottom it out as it had the little spare on it. (*** that looks funny on our cars) He also unlatched my T Tops. He didn't tell be he did, nor did he latch them back up before letting me drive the car off the hoist.
I know some shops do this to prevent the roofs from snaping or popping out. But I have never seen anyone do it before and neglected to think he may have done it.
At 110kmph while passing someone on the freeway heading home the driver side roof began to float. I hung on to it with my hand, but hit a dip in the road the roof left its usual place and the wind sucked it into the car with me. It shattered in my face and the part that was most in the car knocked my hand and the shifter putting me into neutral.
I pulled over to the side of the road and locked the other roof.
Nothing of any real mention for injuries. A minor cut above my eye from the roof and two smaller cuts on my hand.
The place I took my car to admited they had done wrong and apologized, they are replacing my broken roof as well.
But it kinda makes ya think.

You ran into a streak of good luck man, really you did. Your tire got replaced for free from road hazard, you didnt crash your car when you were goin 110kph passing someone and your t-top glass smacked you, AND your shop admitted their wrong doing, AND is going to replace it....
Most the time I read things like this and just about EVERYTHING goes wrong for them, or is a hassle (like the shop refusing to admit they were wrong, or replacing the part)
Glad you turned out allright and everything is back to ship-shape

Thanks man.
Yeah I just picked up my new tire at lunch today. They found a T Top for me, they have to order it in from Kelowna (About 4 hours from here).
It will be in tomarrow or the day after.
They will call me and let me know when its in.
They have been really good to me actually. I have been dealing with them for the last three years. I have had 2 sets of tires through these guys.
I could have whined and moaned and tried to sue them or something, but I would rather just be real about it all and ask for just what I need.
If I would have been difficult, I would likely not be expecting them to do anything extra for me in the future.
As it is they are swallowing the cost of T Top and a new tire as well as the labour to mount then install the tire. They are also paying someone to look for a T Top who would normally be working on cars, making them money.
Its kinda nice being a well treated customer.

Glad you are ok, and everything is getting fixed. Nice job not crashing with broken glass in your face! Doing freeway speeds with a flat tire is no easy thing either. Know a guy who just got his car back from the shop, hood wasn't latched, and flew up and smashed his windshield on the freeway. Guess you have to check everything after a trip to the shop.

Yeah it is Kal Tire.
All the Sears stores here got out of the tire game and they turned into Kal Tire stores.
The guy who worked on my car was cool. He made sure the roofs were secure before he even lowered my car from the hoist.
Since GM only made the acrylic roofs for a couple years then went back to glass, I would imagine finding a replacement must have been a fun job.
However, it should be here today or tomarrow. Then I can return my pick-a-part not quite fitting roof and get my money back from there.
I have to say that I am really impressed with Kal Tire in this case. They could have denied the whole thing and been really difficult.
I work in a professional environment myself, and I know how annoying customers or people can cause you to do just what is needed to shut them up. Then if they ever come back again, it is always the bare minimum just to get them out of the place.
I will be getting a truck in the next couple years, guess where I will buy its tires from?
