Door Pin removal question

Whats the best way to get the lower door pin out. Space is very limited and I don't think I can get my air hammer in there.

easiest thing I think is to pull the door off.

which is really easy if you remove the fender..., might have to disconnect a few wires...

other people used like a dremel?

I used a long screwdriver and a hammer. I hit up on the ridge that holds the little clip in place. It wasn't easy and the only reason I did this was because I'm repainting real soon so I didn't have to worry about it. I would never do it on a freshly painted car, but I'm sure there are cleaner ways.

Getting the pin out isn't that bad. I've cut them in half with a Dremel tool on some cars then banged out the two pieces with a long screwdrover and hammer. Sometimes I've had success using clamping a vise grip plier and hitting it to get it out. The retaining clip usually breaks off when you drive the pin out.

To-date I've only removed the lower pins while replacing the upper ones. The problem is gaining access to the lower bushings. You have to pull the hinge apart to get to them and have access to install the new bushings. This is easy when replacing the upper hinge pins and bushings since you can just pull the entire door back once all 3 pins are removed. If you're only replacing lower pin and bushings I think at teh minimum you'll need to un-bolt the lower hinge. Do a search, the topic of replacing the lower hinge pin and bushings has been discussed and method described.

yeah, I removed the lower hinge. The first time on my driver side it took me about three hours to get the pin out.... first time jobs I was having alot of trouble until I realized to move the hinge. On the passenger side I had the old pin out, new pin in, the new bushings in and was doing the final adjustments on the door in under an hour. Then I busted my hand open warranting a visit to the ER tightening the LAST bolt, the LAST bolt! So yeah, it isn't hard at all after the first time and you'll be so glad you open the door and don't hear the whinning and moaning of the door.
