Side Mirror

Is it possible to remove the glass from the plastic mounting bracket for a side view mirror? I went to a wrecker and found a broken one, took it apart and fount that it is attached to the plastic bracket with a silicon type adhesive. How would you go about getting in there to release the mirror from the adhesive? I ask only because I have power mirrors, one of which is broken and am in possession of a manual mirror, so I was hoping to make a swap, but the brackets are not interchageable.

I dont think they were meant to come out actually. The plastic piece will unscrew from the mirror housing but the mirror and plastic are mated for life, unless you break the glass out and put in a new one with adhesive. There may be some trick to getting the glass out without breaking it but it seem with just a bit of manhandling the mirror chips or cracks. I was thinking of just sinking the whole assembly into some solvent and seeing if the adhesive dissolves.
