Can someone tell me if this will work?(Door panel repair)

When I first got my car 5 years ago, I was a novice and rushed into the project without thinking. I tried to take the door panels off, and pulled off the upper black piece of the panel and seperated it from the lower panel. The little holes in the cardboard?? on the top of the door panel that the upper piece attaches to and all ripped. Rather than buy new door panels, I though about just buying the new top piece from say Haws and then just use some cardboard and make an upside down U type shape and staple it to the cardboard of the door panel so the upper piece has something to attach to. Do you think this will work or am I better off buying new door panels as well? Thanks for any opinions/suggestion, Paul Moore

The other thing you could do, is just put them both on the door seperatley, the clips on the back of the door panel will hold it solid and the black piece mounts by the clipe on the top anyway. it should look fine. i havene't done it but in theroy it should work
