Aftermarket Fuel Guages...HELP!

what are you guys doing for the hook up for the sending unit, are you just using the stock wiring and putting the new guage in? i am about to put together a guage cluster for my car (it's an 87 sport coupe, the one with the HUGE gas guage....gotta go!) with autometer water temp, oil pressure, voltage guage and tach(i already have these) and a cyberdyne digital speedo (already have that and the calibration box), but i realized that i don't have a gas guage. the first thought i had was to somehow incorporate the original gas guage, but then i realized, that would look like crap. so how is the autometer guage wired in?

Zepher, this would be a good question for you...and anyone else who has done this swap, post pics too...

Autometer should have a gauge that uses the factory sender.

Just use the factory sending unit if it works ok. Autometer makes a gauge that will work with the factory sending unit(0-90ohms). Thats what I used.

I'm also looking into getting a fuel gauge. I have an 83 and i'm wondering will the electric fuel auto meter gauges work in my car? Is the stock gauge in it now electric?

did you just use all the wiring from the stock guage and plug it into the new guage?

Yes thats what I did. I located the correct wires in the stock wiring harness and ran them to the new gauge. You may have to spice them to make them long enough to reach the new gauge depending on where you mount it.
