Who's done hood and hatch struts?
Who's done hood and hatch struts?
I know everyone...but just got my TTA and am doing them tonight. Saw a FAQ somewhere about a torx bit and a friend. Looked at mine quickly when I got the car and looks like we have those metal "clips" much like you see everywhere on motorcycles. Bend slightly (without stretching out) to get off and slide back on.
Any advice/tips? Plan on doing myself since I have made padded poles for keeping the deck and hood up as they are.
Anybody?

ive only done the hood ones.... its pretty easy:
prop up the hood with a rod, pole, ect...
undo one clip...
smack it with the palm of your hand and it pops off. do the same for the other half.
pop the new one in place.. sometimes they use diffrent then stock clips, so you'll have to look at it.
repeat for the other side.
i have a vert so the back ones for the trunk are just like the underhood ones.

Rear's are easy too. Just make sure you have help or a good prop rod for holding that back glass up. To say it's heavy is an understatement

The hood ones have a little clip that if you take a screwdriver and pop the clip then pull it off is pretty easy ( Use some masking tape on the tip so not to scrathc the paint
)
Ther rear hatch is not much harder, matter of fact its pretty easy... Prop open the hatch, and do ONE side at a time. take screws out and put in the new struts...
HOWEVER as a note the rear struts are really strong, I was told that you should make sure youslowly compress them the first time. work them a little... I do not know what it will accomplish tho.
Some companies have a lifetime Warrenty on the struts... get those

Yep, for the hood struts, just do what MrDude said. That's basically what I did.
For the rear hatch struts, you will need a friend or pole, rod, etc. to hold the hatch while you remove the hatch struts. The struts are held in by a 7mm bolt on the hatch and a T50 torx bolt at the rear of the B-pillar. Just remove the rear defrost connectors from the struts, then unbolt them (one at a time) and then install the new ones.
