I will start out by saying I am extremely particular about my automobiles. I have a 91 Z28 Vert with about 27,000 miles. I have owned the car for about 6 years now. Anyway it is starting to get some stones chips in the finish, has a small scratch in the rear bumper and small door ding. Anyway, last summer I took the car to a couple quality body shops I trust for an estimate. Both places basically told me I was nuts to paint it as the finish was excellent considering the age. One of them also told me I would "de-value" the car by messing with it. My questions for you are:
1. Would you repaint?
2. Do you think a repaint would devalue the car?

I should add I am not looking at the car as an investment or anything, it is just a toy. I do not know how long I will keep it...I have never kept any car this long (and I am 35)

Do what makes you feel happy. I am having my car repainted and I only have a little over 35k on the clock. 99% of all 3rd gens have no value anyways. It is sad but so so true. A new paint job may acutally bring what value it has up. Unfortunately low mileage means nothing on these cars. The beauty is in the beholder and not in any KBB or insurance form.

How many pepole u think said that back in the 50 60 and 70. If it is some little things u can live with I would not repaint it. Are cars one day (might not be soon) but one day they will be worth something. If u paint it its not original.Even with them few little flaws it will be worth more.just my 2 cents. Know my I would prob paint than kick my self in the butt after i was done lol

If its just going to be a toy rather than an investment, do what you want, not what someone else thinks is right. If you dont do it the way you want it done you'll regret it for a long time.

Dude if your car is a trailer queen, and you are keeping it for value inside your garage. Dont paint it.
Painting it wont bring the value down today on the contrary it will be easier to sell. But in 40 or 50 years the third gens with original paints will be worth a lot more eaven with some imperfections than the ones with new paint jobs.

then keep your chiped paint and do some toch ups
i have the same problem and im the same way, but even if you paint it and drive it no matter what its going to get chiped thats just the facts of life inless you trailer it.....

i dont see how painting it would decrease the value since like it was mentioned earlier, our cars hold no value anyways, if anything it would just raise the value of your vehicle.

Thank you for your feedback. From what I had heard, I thought nice convertibles were going for $10,000 or more. Sounds like they are pretty much just another used car. My banker self just can't see me putting $5000-$6000 into a car that NADA values at $7,300.00 especally if it is just going to get nicked again.
