Side window removal

I'm deep into "restoring" my 92 camaro. I gutted the doors today getting ready for the body shop. I had a little trouble getting the windows out of the doors with all the rollers, brackets still attached to the window. I've not had much luck with the search function with this. I know this will be a pain to reinstall when the car is painted. My question is. Do I remove all the hardware from the windows then reinstall after it's in the door? Do I use rivets or bolts and nuts?

I did a search and found this post.
What did you come up with? I have the same question now.
Did you have to remove the brackets?
Thanks.

Well, my car is just now getting painted so, I haven't done anything yet. I will more than likely drill out the rivets and reinstall with bolts and nuts with locktight.

I haven't done this yet but I was told you can get the rivets from the dealer and the rivet tool from Harbor freight. I found out about the tool on this board when looking at replacing the window motors. IIRC it's about $20 for the tool.

Also, I was told to punch out the centers of the rivets, but I don't think that will work with glass. (The center pin is a harder metal.) that's all I know so far...

Yes you need to punch out the center of the rivet...its a rush to R&I a 3rd gen window. After you punch out the center you can drill the head off..use a sharp bit..heres a good tip..grab the back of the rivet with a rag, it will keep the rivet from spinning.

Have fun!
