Rattling Door Locks, Guide + Pics
Ever since my car was broken into, and I lost my radio, I have been listening to the wonderful rattles within my car. Now, for this car being an 86, its rattling like a death trap. Comparitavely, my 89 Camaro is 99% rattle free.
I have begun a neverending quest to rid my car of rattles. This is how I got rid of my rattling door locks for less than $3.
Some of the pictures were pretty dark, I brightened them up a little to show some detail.
First, you need some crazy glue, black felt (Walmart $0.20) and your door locks.

In the next two pics, notice how much play was in my door locks themselves.

Here is a picture of the worn felt on my door lock.

Now that you have taken off the door locks, you need to clean the old felt off. I used some scissors to scrape the old junk off.

Next, cut yourself some felt thats the size that you need.
<img src="http://www.zbalan.com/sonarun/TransAm/rattledoor/rattledoor06.jpg">
Then, crazy glue that sucker on.

Here is a little before and after shot.

Do that to both sides, and you should be just about finished. One thing that I noticed was that one single layer wasn't enough, so I repeated the steps and added another layer of felt. This make the door lock much tighter. Now there is no play at all in it. Perfect.

Replace your door components and marvel at how you eliminated another rattle.

This took me about 30 mintutes to complete from start to finish. Easy and cheap job to stop those rattles!

I have folded business cards between panels all over the car.
I swear there wasn't one squeak or rattle till I put the jamex springs in.
