5-point harness w/o roll bars

Whats up people, I am looking for a way the mount a 5-point seat belt harness in my 91 RS without having roll bars(too much weight.) It has to be a safe way of doing this if you can at all if not i will just get a 6 point roll cage put in. Thanks for the help!

you need to have the straps mounted to somthing above the shoulder line, prefably directly behind you, but a little higher is better then a little lower.

however, theres nothing in that location on these cars.

if you want a properly installed harness, you need a rollbar. (or some other fabbed bracket at the proper location... )sucks, but thats how it is...

that is not the only saftey issue.

With harness installed, in a rollover accident, the harness will do more harm than good, if you do not have some form of roll-over protection. With a factory 3point belt, in the event where the roof is curshed, your body can move downward and inward towards the consle. With the 5 points, you can not do this, instead your head becomes the high point in the interior. Running 4/5/6 points harness' without proper mounting AND roll-over protection, is very unsafe.

The other thing to consider.... at a HPDE or any even run by a sactioning body, that has techs who can even remotely do their job. Would not allow you to run in the harness' without the roll bar. The only execption to this would be auto-x, where many people run 4/5 points to keep them in the seat, but at an auto-x the chance of a impact is very slim, and roll-over is even slimmer. Most HPDE's I have gone to, also will require you to provide equal saftey/restraints to the instructor/passanger, as the driver gets.

What is your purpose in wanting 5 points, but not having a roll bar installed, that lack of roll bar would make me guess that you are not installing them for saftey's sake, but rather to get the 'race car feel'. It is not worth risking yours or your pasangers life, just to have harness', if you are wanting to equipe your car with them, for saftey's sake, please install a proper roll bar/cage.
