Help! 89' Door panel removal...

How do you properly remove the black plastic "Rail" that runs across the TOP of the door Panel? I practiced at the junkyard and just pulling it up seems to rip the cardboard holes at the top of the panel.
Thanks!

I had the same problem. Looks like you need to pop off those black metal washers then reattach them afterwards somehow. I ended up ripping my door panel and had to glue it afterwards.

First you have to remove the entire inner door panel from the door. The window must be down to get the top off. You have to press inward, then up to remove the top rail from the door. Once you have the entire door panel free set it on the ground. There are several inverted sheet metal nuts that attach to plastic studs on the black plastic piece holding it to the cardboard of the door panel. There must be a special tool for that inverted nut, but I haven't found one yet. You can carefully twist them off with Vise Grips. Just be carefull or you'll snap off the plastic studs.

Good luck, Lon

I tried pressing inward and couldn't get it off. Then I tried sliding the whole thing toward the back of the door (latch end) and it came right off.
