Why does my heater/AC fan barely move air?

I turn on the blower to full bore and it feels like the "low" setting in any other car. Definetly not enough to keep the car cold in summer or warm in winter.

The motor sounds like it's working - it gets faster as you move the fan ****. What's going on here? Could it be a vacuum hose problem?

i had vacuum leaks screwing mine up, i replaced the check valve behind the intake under the hood and that pretty much fixed it for me.

Mine did that too.

Step 1: There's a big purple wire supplying power to the motor. Take it away temporarily, and connect a jumper wire right to the battery.........is it any faster now? If it's the same as before, that rules out your switch, wiring, etcetera as a source of the problem.

Step 2. I forget now how the motor gets its ground. But same as in step 1..... temporarily improve the ground with another wire, and see if that makes any difference.

Step 3. This is what I did-----go to the dealer and buy a new blower motor. Mine was around $55 list, and it did come with the plastic blades too.

I found out after a lot of troubleshooting and messing around that these motors do wear out and become slow. The replacement motor made all the difference in the world.

There are aftermarket motors that are probably cheaper, but I haven't tried any of them.

55 bucks sound reasonable for a brand new OEM blower motor. That's what I'd do if wiring isn't at fault...

Sounds like a bad ground though.

Move your air control from heat to ac or vent (with engine running) and see if the air discharge changes from floor to upper vents, try max air and listen for air noise to get louder. If no changes you do have a vacuum or air door operation problem.

That is what's going on - the fan speed stays constant and the air flow is always the same at the bottom or top. I can also hear a constant hissing sound, no matter where the selector is at. Guess I'll have to hunt down the leak. Thanks for everybody's help!!
