I'm brand new to the site, I was just wondering if the 3rd gen firebird had the same pulldown unit as the camaro, and if so, how do I go about removing one?

they should be... as far as i can remember you have to take the rear cover (with the little light) off, and then there are light 3 main screws that bolt to the body and then you have to disconnect a couple of plugs, and dont forget to disconnect the ground wire from its screw to... it should just pull right out.

There were two styles of hatch pull-down motor used in 1991. Early ones have a metal frame and were used from 1986-91. There were minor changes between the 1986-87 and 1988-91 units, but functionally they are interchangeable. If you got one from a 1986-87 (assuming that yours HAS the metal frame) all you'd have to do is swap the small black connector on the blue wire for the large white one on the blue wire of the other pull-down unit. Firebird and Camaro have the same pull-down motor. Later in the 1991 model year they switched to one with a tan colored plastic frame. This was used for 91-92 and is not interchangeable with the early ones.

If it is just a matter of something wrong with yours, I sell all the parts to repair it.

I have actually already been to your site and taken a look at the parts, I was going to place an order for one of the kits until I took the unit out of the back and saw that the only reason it was still holding the hatch down was that they used a rather liberal amount cold weld epoxy to secure the sliders together..... thats what you get when you buy a beater out here on guam.
