Ok so I have a 1988 firebird. Purchased it two weeks ago. I'm kind of curious if it actually is a formula. Or cloned to look like one. It had 16 inch stock rims on it. Has the formula offset hood. But has a hood latch bar as well. Lol And the wrap around spoiler. It has the performance suspension badge under the leather compartment in passenger side. 8th digit of vin is E. It has a 5.0 tbi. I don't have access to the rpo code yet. Key cylinder for hatch is frozen. And I haven't had time to see a locksmith yet. And it doesn't have the hatch pop. So gentlemen is there anyway to tell.

 

She could have been rebuilt and transformed to look like a Formula Maybe look for RPO code WS6 in the centre console and also W61, W63 or W66 The vin won't tell you if it's a Formula. The TBI came with different wheels than the TPI if I remember correctly.

That looks like a Formula to me. Most likely repainted. Check out https://www.phoenixgraphix.com/ for OEM decals if you're interested.

 

I will look in the center console tonight after work. I really want to get in the hatch. It is a shame the lock cylinder is frozen.If it a formula. I will be very happy. Because it will be my 2nd 5 speed t top one. Lol we will see. And if it is verified it is. I will order the decals ASAP. Lol

Since it didn't come with the "F" or "8" engine code, the only sure way to know is with the presence of the WS6 and W66 options in the console. You should also see the front and rear sway bars underneath. On most clones people forget and leave the "Firebird" lettering on the front fenders and have the base rear spoiler.

Your car does have all the correct clues, although mine came off the line without the Performance Suspension dash emblem. It's all good, though, ' cos I bought a replacement.

 

Ladies and gentlemen this is a 1988 Pontiac Firebird Formula it has the ws6 part number in the center console w66 you name it. Hell yes. Thanks guys. I'm ordering those badges right now.
