any real pinstripers here.

Does anyone on here do any artistic hand pinstriing? I took my car to this pinstiper to get some pinstripe artwork done on the nose of my car. When the guy dropped the $300 price on me I was shocked. I have been thinking of doing it myself and have been looking at some brushes and the stuff to do it. So here are my questions.

1. What are the best brands of brushes and paints?

2. Why do the call the paint "1 shot". Is it because you only have one shot to get it right or your screwed?

Any other other tips will also be appreciated.

It's called 1-shot because you only need one coat. Meaning it's thick...and as you know often used for pinstriping. We use it at out sign shop quite a bit and it's good stuff.

...I don't do pinstriping, but I can tell you that you need an artists touch. You HAVE to have a steady hand, and you have to know how to work the brushes properly. I'm an artist, and I tried it once and did...well.....OK at best. It's not easy, but the cool thing is you can practice on artboard or something similar before you do it for real on the car.

Give it a shot, nothing like doing something yourself!

Thanks for the reply. I don't plan on starting out on my car I have plenty of hoods and junk laying around to practice on. Besides working on cars I am a musician and have steady precise hands. I think the only problem I will have is creating the design not laying it down. Fortunately all the stuff is very inexpensive so I think it is worth giving a shot.

I actually did quite a bit of it while I was going to college, as a side, for extra cash. Lettered semi's, the local garbage hauler's trucks, the Fire dept...no gold leaf, just gold paint. Numbers, names, and stripes on all my friends, and dad's friends, snomobiles. etc...
It's all in how much you're willing to put into it... the practice is the biggest part.
