cheap fender rust fix?

The front and rear fenders over the wheels are rusting on an otherwise good '89 rs body. Looking for a relatively cheap fix. This is my son's car so he can't afford the body shop route. I'm pretty handy and looking for ideas to make a fix. Doesn't have to be perfect, just need to rid the rust and holes. I thought there was an outfit that sold fender "covers that effectively cover the damaged area. Anybody out there have any ideas?

You can probably get some good solid front fenders from a junkyard for a pretty good price....the back however.......

To be honest there is no quick fix for rust. Get some fenders for $25.00 and swap them out. Depending on the year getting to the front bolts on a Camaro is a PITA.

Now the rear you might as well plan on cutting, welding and bondoing or whatever to solve the problem. If you try to cover your current problem (which I never heard of) you will not solve the problem and only make matters worse.

Remember it only cost a few dollars more to go first class.

In the meantime you can get some rust neutralizer. I used the Permatex stuff. It will stop the rust in it's tracks. You will need to coat the rusted areas after this with some primer or something.

Sorry not to hijack the thread where can you get rear quarters new? I have a rust problem behind each rear tire on both sides.

check out a body shop or body shop supplier...

I bought my quarters and a rocker panel replacement from CAPS (central alberta paint supply), I had to wait a bit for the rocker since it was coming from the states, but yeah its not that much either 250 cdn for the quarters and 30 bucks for the rocker

If its not bad you can fix it yourself. Take a drill with a wire wheel attachment and grind away as much of it as you can, then coat the rusty areas with por 15, fill in any small holes or indentations with body filler, Sand smooth, Paint.

I know Year One has them, but you may be able to find them cheaper someplace else, I haven't really looked.
