'88 and '92 Camaro rear seat belts are different?
wtf... I've got a complete interior set (the plastic panels) from a '91 Camaro, that I've completely refinished (in a nice flat black, look awesome) I go to put them in - and there's two large holes in the plastic panel, behind the rear 6x9s! I'm like WTF
A little research shows that '92s (at least) had rear shoulder belts, too? So can I just swap those rear belts into my '88? (considering the side panels DO NOT have the holes for my current lap belts!

Starting in 1989 rear seat shoulder belts were introduced on US destined F-body models. There are large holes in the rear panels for the retractors and the slots for the lap belt retractor previously used were filled.
There are ratractor mount brackets spot welded to the inner wheel wells. You would need to weld these in to put rear shoulder belts in a '88 or older.

Some 88's got the rear shoulder harnesses iirc, and you cant add them to your car, unless you want to fabricate your own bracket and do some hammering to the car, the underside where they go is completely different.

Time to dust this one off, so if I wanted to install rear lap belts in a 92, are the mounts still there or would those need to be welded on as well?

The driver's side is completely different, like Z28***** said. I couldn't figure out why the bracket wouldn't fit right & after I modified it and got it to fit the wheelwell hump, the interior plastic wouldn't fit over the retractor because it sat too high. GM must've changed the shape of the wheelwell hump on the driver's side to accommodate the rear shoulder belt retractors. I re-shaped the wheelwell hump and got it to work, but it was a major project.
If you're changing over because you have kids and need rear shoulder belts for the carseats, it may be worth it to you. If you're changing over because you got a good deal on some 89-92 plastics... sell them and buy the early style ones. Just my $.02
