If it's like the 91 Camaro with the airbag, first, get the Haynes manual or go to autozone.com and look up their repair info. These resources will tell you how to disable the airbag so it doesn't blow in your face.
Here's a direct link:
http://autozone.com/servlet/UiBroker...3d801c03c1.jsp
And if it won't work you, after selecting the vehicle, I clicked "Repair Info" --> "Chassis Electrical" --> "Supplemental Inflatable Restraint System"
On my 91 Camaro, there are 4 Torx screws on the back of the steering wheel holding the airbag unit on. Remove these 4, unplug the aurbag and the horn buttons are right there on the Camaro (once again -- not too sure about the Firebird. Mine were broken and that's why they didn't work for me.). If anyone knows where to get the little plastic horn buttons, let us know.

First pull the airbag fuse, then disconnect the yellow wire for SIR under the steering column. You will have to drop the panel below the dash to get access to the wire. It looks to be about a 10 gauge wire and it has a big label attached to it saying it's for air bag power.
Then you are safe to go. I have to go after my horn button too. It works on the right side but nuttin' on the left side. I am not even sure if it is repairable. Hope it is.

Axle/Gears: bunch of 10 bolts how scary is that
I did batery and fuse and thats it. Considering the horn and air bag are not even related your not gonna have a problem. Just dont take is off with a 12v battery.
