Metro t top weatherstripping

Has anyone had experience with Metro t top weatherstripping? I have used Metro before on other cars and it worked fine and is a good product. Before replacing the weatherstripping on my '84 t tops I read several threads on here plus some tech articles and I think I was prepared and knew what I was doing. I did all the prep work, did a dry fit, used 3M black adhesive and 3M strip caulk to fill the voids, the weatherstrip fits perfectly and have only done the passenger side so far. The problem is now the t tops will not fit. I slide them in under the t bar and lower down to latch but they will not lower enough to latch. I press down on the top but still no luck in latching. Looking from underneath the latch bar is missing the hole by about 1/2 inch. From the top when I press down on the edge of the top the pressure raises the edge of the middle t bar. I don't want to press down and force it but still I don't think it would latch. I have adjusted the latch holes to the max but no luck. Even with pressing down, the top is about 5/16 inch above the body of the car. I read in a tech article the max should be no more than 1/16 inch. I see no way this weatherstripping is going to work. Anyone have any ideas before I rip it out and go with GM?

Same thing happened to me- the new rubber just needed time to mold to the t-top. I put my tops on and it eventually compressed where it had to.

Yeah, same thing happened to me. I just replace the seals and I swear that I thought I was going to break the tops trying to get them back in. Hope mine "settle" out. They were tight as hell. How long does it take for the seals to "mold to" thier new home?

Thanks, Martin

I wrecked my car a few weeks later so I've no idea, but after that time I could install the t-tops without shattering the glass being a concern.

Thanks for the responses. I got my drivers side installed yesterday. Both tops are still tight and have a lot of compressing to do. No way either one latches yet. And no way I am driving it yet. They look good, installed good and hopefully soon will settle in.
