Making custom shifter plate

I'm making a custom shifter plate to replace the original and the ash tray slot. I'm using plexiglass, duplicolor metalcast and a B&M megashifter rubber boot to make it. I've got a B&M z-gate shifter so the stock plate doesn't come anywhere near fitting.

I'm going to start posting up the pictures of the project tommorow after I get my new alternator put in.

I made 2. Goin back to school so they gotta wait till I get some free time

I used plate steel and a MIG welder

Planned on covering the plate with black vinyl and the console itself with carpet to match

Not pretty now but they aint done, this is jsut the framework

THe stock console is just a junker so I wouldnt risk melting my good one, and I have to resize the glovebox area for the fab'd console cuz its too deep (hits the chassis)
The piece layin beside the colsole is the armrest-door. Its going to have alot of foam to soften the top before the carpet goes over it

Here's what I have after a nights work

I'm going to make another one since I made a smalll crack. I'll make sure to take pictures as I go to. It's really simple to do and you could do it out of whatever material you wants depending on the tools you have. If any one want me to do a how to just say so and I'll post it here.

maybe you should just take the entire console out, get full carpet with no console cut out, and bolt in a B&M pro rachet shifter. That way there is nothing to break.

didn't know you had all the electric stuff. I could take out my e-brake since my car's a weekend only car, and sits under the carport with wheel chalks in place when it's home. I sometimes forget that some guys are driving their Camaros on the street a lot. As a matter of fact I think I might start looking at doing it myself. Thanks for giving me an idea.

You have a console mega shifter. When I got my car, it came with a z-gate shifter and no shifter plate. I'm also having to switch to a hurst quarter stick shifter because I'm running a TH350 with a reverse, full manual valve body, so I can't use a console megashifter. The only thing I can do is make a custom plate if I want to keep the rest of the console and have it look decent. I'm also going to do a switch plate the same way where the ac/heater controls were. My car is black and I'm adding red racing stripes. The engine bay is black with red. Now I'm making the interior the same.

Welding Class.....

Dude, if your in a welding class they teaching you to weld Aluminum? Cuz that would be pretty bitchin. Kinda your idea but make it to where you rolls up into the dash. Then fill in all your seams with the TIG machine. then grind all your welds nice and flush then pull out the buffer and buff it all to a mirror. that would be awesome right there and still lightweight. Course maybe i shouldn't be giving away all my secrets.
