New GM hood

Anyone have any issues with a GM hood? My car was in an accident and repaired with all new GM parts. The new hood appears to be @1/4-1/2" too short. It fits well at the windshield and the contour fits the fenders fine. But the front end seems like it's too short. It doesn't match with the plastic nose at the headlight area and across the center. Kind of hard to explain. I'll get some pictures later today. Thanks.

Test on picture attachment. I think they may be to large. If so I'll retake tomorrow.

I can't see any way those are GM parts, not fitting that badly.Either the hood or the nose is an aftermarket part.Don't take their word for it,they make alot more money if they use ringers.Take it back till they get it right.

It is for sure a GM hood. I saw the hood with the part number on it and the box it came in. The bodyman is a long time friend of mine and will not use aftermarket parts because of this vary sort of thing.

sorry to say, you got one that sliped through quality control, it happens every now and then. contact the gm dealer that the part was puchased thorugh, and talk to them about trading the hood off for another. most of the time, if the dealer is notified of a fit issue within a reasonable time from date of purchase, they will make it right, even if the bad hood is already painted.

Actually I just went out and looked at mine and the hood does not line up perfectly with the fender edge at the top near the windshield. The hood is moved downwards towards the bumper to line up with the headlight pocket edge. The top part is off. It's something you don't really notice till you start really, really looking. As far as I know mine is completely stock.

mine before i took it apart 2 years ago for total restoration. my hood lined up exactly with the bumper before it was removed. his bumper looks right, the hood just is not right, i bet the gap is messed up in the middle as well.

Indeed, the difference you see at the headlight area is consistent all the way across the hood. It looks especially bad in the center because of the white color of the hood and the dark underhood area. The picture I took of the whole front end is too large to post here.

I have seen other cars that looked similar. My bodyman is of the opinion that after x number of years GM subcontracts parts out to aftermarket vendors. I thought I had heard once that they are required to provide parts that are not current for 10 years and after that whtever?

I wish I had known beforehand. At a list price of @$850 and I think I paid @$500 for that thing I would have way rather had a Harwood glass hood.

i have never seen an aftermarket hood in a genuine gm box from the factory. we work on lots of older models (work at a body shop) and even the older stuff that gets the factory replacment still fits good and has factory numbers on it. i think you got a dud. where did you buy this by the way? if from a dealer, show the hood to them as well as the purchase receipt.

good luck
