Interior Cleansing

Does anybody have a good chemical that will remove smells from the cloth interior of my GTA, I purchased this car a while back and it has black cloth interior in excellent shape, except for the smell. So far I have steam cleaned it with my hoover carpet cleaning machine with laundry detergent(I used Cheer dark so the color would not come out), and I have put a container of Damp Rid inside the car (which is just a bucket of calcium chloride that is supposed to remove mildew and moisture) but so far my attempts have been unsuccesful, any new ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

If you've tried a steam cleaner and moisture absorber with poor results, I would try having it professionally cleaned with an extractor. If that doesnt work, then I'd save for some new carpet and padding material. It doesnt cost that much honestly.

I was eventually going to replace the carpet, but not till the weather becomes warmer here, its way too cold now. I was hoping to find a temp solution for now. What chemicals do they use with and extractor?

Baking soda

Put a box under all your seats, even the rear ones

Sometimes cleaning them with a upholstry cleaner will help. I like the Blue Coral brand for this.

Baking soda will help to, sometimes letting the car air out for a while will help too.

When i got my old camaro i let it air out for a while, dern smokers.

Try a good parts store, and look for a/c evaporator odor control spray-it eats
the various fungi that plague interiors, along with the good idea of baking
soda.

Also try Ozium if you can find it.

BTW: What is the funky smell?

If it's a wet basement / wet dog smell, I'd fix the t-tops .(Assuming you have them) Otherwise, it'll come back next time it rains.

Or well, that's just what I figure.

The car does have T-Tops, and they most probably leak....the smell can be best desribed as a mildew or damp smell. Thanks for the suggestions, I'm going to try it all.

I don't even think that its your carpet! Its probably the padding and sound dampening under the carpet.
What u wanna do is either get new padding, or sound dampening and put it in.
Than go to junkyard and find a decent carpet out of a third gen. Take it out and clean the **** out of it, than let it sit outside for a week, than clean it more and make it pretty. Install it and no more smell.

Also, fix any leaks soon!

i know what your talking about, That camaro i got for free, the 1983 berlinetta, well, it had mice in it and mice shi* of course, well i tried alot of things.. What i noticed worked best and got rid of the smells was strongest airfreshener at wal-mart i bout 3, and put them where the fan motor is, you have to remove the big screen thing, but that worked pretty good, with that Carpet stuff, you throw on the carpet to kill pet odors, after a week you vaccuum the carpet.. and under the seats, and then you pick your favorite semi-strong airfreshener, and buy 4, take out those strong killing your nose fresheners and put your 3 of the 4 in there, and one on the rear view. Next i bought one of those jell type fresheners, the same scent as the other 4, and put it in the rear well or anywhere in the back.... and you'll be happy.. I always had my fan on low... avoid using the HOT air with the fresheners.. i dunno but it may smell alittle wierd.. anyway, that worked for me..
My 1988 smells great.. i put in three GM new car scent in the fan duct, and it smells wonderful..
