fiberglass headliner
I have found some evidence that my '85 TA (T-top car) may have spent a short time either under water, or parked very near it for a long time: that evidence being a pretty horrible interrior and things rusted out that shouldnt be. So when I bought a donor car (also a T-top car) for the T5 swap that had a decent interrior, I decided I'd swap that too.
i had to move the headliner around to change the seatbelts in the recieving car, and the fiberboard started disintegrating when i touched it. the one in the donor car looked good, so i swapped it in. but the thing is, the backing for the headliner in the donor car is made of fiberglass. and it's thick too; the whole thing probably weighs 15-20 pounds. it's strong enough to drill into and mount stuff up there, if i were so inclined.
now for my question: is this a factory thing, or did someone do an excellent job of reproducing a facory headliner in fiberclass in a POS '84 TA? It's a little bigger than my disintegrating one, like someone may have used the original as a mold or something.

Sounds like something that someone made. I have an aftermarket fiberglass headliner, but it weighs almost nothing.
