trans am to firebird, is it possible?

Alright, currently i have an 82 trans am, I bought it a good price for 500$ no motor, no trans, But i really like the firebird, b/c i want to make a dragstar out of it, well not full time dragstar, the wheels and tires i bought for it, was 15x8 rear weld prostar and 15x4 fronts, Im running a rather fat 275x60x15 on rear, looks nice, But I found a sweet pic of a firebird, But i was wandering how hard it would be to put the firebird nose on it like in the pic, and do away with all the lower body styling, Like that came on the trans am. Im sure i could fill the holes where the strips that held all that stuff on, but will the nose piece work? or what abouit the rocker pannels in the lower part of the door?

What the heck kind of crack are you on??? Every now and then I see a totally weirdo post and I have to comment. If you don't like the SUPERIOR trans-am, and want a base model, INFERIOR firebird, sell what you have a buy a crappy firebird. geez!

That's not a totally weird post... I don't like body kits at all, and think the sports coupe looks mean and the IROC looks like ***. It's all personal preference.... If the man wants to get rid of the body kit let him! just extra weight.

I don't think my base model Firebird is inferior or crappy.

PROSTREET82: If your Trans Am is really an '82, it would have the same front end and no ground effects. From reading your other post, it sounds like your car has an 85-90 nose on it. Do you have any pics?

I agree. If you have an 82, the only differences I can think of are the hood, and the tiny ground effects in front of the rear weels and the effects in front of the front wheels. Everything else shoukld more less be the same i believe. I think the rear lights on the Trans Am might be tinted though while the Firebird's are red.

yeah, 82-84 nose is the same for T/A or base bird. The plastic inserts are solid on the Trans Am and there are the vented looking ones on the firebird, and if was an 84 then you have to remove the ground effects. that's about it.

I'm almost sure that all Trans Ams came with the...hmm....what's it called? I'm not to sure.....but it has the "bump" on the driver's side. Looks nice IMO (.....you can tell what i want eh? lol)

But I'm pretty sure that all hoods will fit. It's just the design that's diff. I'm sure someone will chime in though.

Any '82-'92 Trans Am/Firebird hood will interchange between the years.
Not all 1982 Trans Ams got the powerbulge hood. But most did.

Hope this helps,

George

and if you're trying to find your powerbuldge hood, later model formulas had them as well as the 82-84 Trans Ams. Firebird SEs also had a different hood, a lot like the 85-90 trans am hood, but, w/o the rear heat extractors.

im sorry but jeremy up there is completely wrong about the solid vs. the slotted bumper inserts

he obviously knows jack crap about these cars

solid bumper inserts were on the daytonas and aero packaged cars

slotted on all the rest afaik including all the regular t/a and s/e birds like my 82 t/a for example

And if you want a pwerbulge hood come to Va and I will trade you for the cowl hood. I think the power bulge hood is the ugliest hood to grace a firebird. I will be replacing mine with ram air or cowl as soon as possible.
