door problem

so I did some searching and couldn't really find what I was looking for. my problem is (drumroll pls) my drivers door won't close at all. I drove a couple blocks and noticed the door wasn't all the way closed so I opend it to slam it shut and it decided not to close at all . I'm thinking the latch is messed up or the linkage in the door. am I on the right track?
thanks all

my 84 t/a does that if u dont slam it. mine is due to the hinge pins are really bad, i've replaced the bottom pin and it helped it some, but the door still sags a bit. i can't find pins for the top, nor can i get a drill on the top original rivets holding the hinge together.

On your door, check to see if the latch has rolled back. If the latch is open, then you would be able pull or push down on it. If it is locked, you will need a something about two inches long, and thin, a key will work, there is a small lever to the left of the latch, you will have to get on your knees, look up to the left of the latch, there should be a small silver lever, take your tool (key) ank push up as far as you can, hold it there and pull forward on the latch, that should do the trick.

Gasman try one of our sponsors up top(TDS or Hawks) for the upper hinge pin kits. There are 2 different kits availible;the standard replacement kit similar to what's on there now or a kit with grease fittings-better hardware with this one too.If you pick up a copy of the march issue of "Chevy Performance" they have an article on repairing hinge pins on a '84 Z28.

Ya know I have some bad pins. Need to use some force to close the door. However its not bad if you figure how it works.

Now does your door close, a bit or not at all???

If its not at all than what you did is push the little locking **** (sorry not sure what its name is) down and its just striking the latch.

Look on the side of your door, there is an opening with the locking mechanism. Very first thing thats closest to you should be that latch.
If its down just push it up. It might take a bit of muscle. Its very easy to push down but very hard to push up.

I will try to get some pics for I don't know how any of the crap in the door is called.

The secret is you have to hold the door handle up when you want to reverse that locking mech. Hold the door handle up, then flip the switch up.... done. 5 seconds.

Well maybe not aplicable to your situation but ive seen camaros that have door problems because the chasis is bent and the car is in dire need of a full frame.

if its not one thing...

its another. well the door opens and closes (like I said) but now it won't start. I think somthing is grounded out because when I turn the key I don't get anything at all. before I "fixed" it by wiggleing some wires, right now I'm just to P.O.ed.

as far as the subframe being bent the only reason I don't think that is because I'm hoping that it was checked before I bought it (based on an accident it was in and the repair shop I talked to).

This might be a dumb question, but I'm not sure, when you talk about the article on hinge replacement in the March issue of Chevy Performance, do you meen '05 or '06? I don't know if they put their magazines out a month in advance...?
